The four-month tournament is typically the stage for some intriguing battles and is where players go beyond their limits to perform and chase victories.
This year’s edition of the Power League has started in early January and over the course of the month and each division has played at least one stop (or the seeding day). The 18s Division, which combines 17s and 18s teams from the Evergreen State is one of the most advanced with two rounds already completed.
This week, we’re highlighting some of the teams that had the best performances in the division so far and this time we’ll feature the SIVA 18 Blue team from the Skagit Island Volleyball Academy in the northwest of the state, which holds a 6-1 win record in the tournament so far.

Key Players
Finnley Clayes – Outside Hitter – HS: Meridian – 2022
An explosive and athletic outside hitter, Finnley Clayes adds a lot of firepower to the team at the pin. She’s listed as 5’9” but plays taller than that because of her long arm and her ability to jump. Clayes has a nice offensive variation, being able to hit at the pin or sets closer to the middle, which keeps opponents guessing. She will play for Western Washington at the collegiate level after a successful high school career with Meridian.
Avery Neal – Libero – HS: Meridian – 2022
Avery Neal was also a part of the Meridian team that finished third in the State Championship just a couple of months ago. The 5’7” libero is electric on the backcourt and is a digging machine, often registering north of 20 positive actions in that area of the game. What makes of Neal such a prolific defender is her fantastic combination of excellent positioning and outstanding ball control. She’s also an amazing basketball player.
Sofia Rader – Defensive Specialist/Outside Hitter – HS: Lynden Christian – 2023
Sofia Rader is another player who strongly contributes to SIVA 18 Blue’s excellent backcourt game. A libero during the last high school season with her team Lynden Christian, she’s playing as a defensive specialist, providing backcourt relief to the team’s outside hitter. Rader is as much a high producer as Neal and has an excellent technique for overhead digs.
