Continue ReadingThe Triple Crown National Invitation Tournament was held at the Kansas City Convention Center. There were hundreds of talented teams from across the country competing in this awesome tournament and over 500 college coaches were in attendance. Texas was well represented with 69 teams in the 15’s -18’s divisions. Over the course of the three days we were able to witness some amazing play from our wonderful Texas players.
My favorite position to watch when I am in the gym are the setters. They are so important to the flow of the game and they bring so much fluidity to it as well. They are the glue that hold the team together as they dictate the offensive flow. From what I saw over the course of the weekend, these young ladies were good extensions of their coaches on the court. Each of these gifted setters deserve kudos as I could not get enough of watching them do their thing on the court. Each was added for a very different reason on this article but they all are deserving of every word and then some. Keep their names on your short list of players to watch for the rest of the season.
Kirra Musgrove Kirra Musgrove 6'2" | S Lutheran South Academy | 2025 State #12 Nation TX [2025] 6-1 Setter/Right Side (HS: Clear Falls/Club: Houston Juniors /Verbal: Uncommitted)
Kirra is a very talented and tall setter on a club team that is very stacked with college level talent. The lengthy setter plays for Clear Falls and Houston Juniors . She doubles as a right side attacker in their six-two high-octane offense. She was firing some lasers to her hitters in all three positions all weekend long. Every match I watched, she threw up some absolute beautiful dimes to her middles and created some great one on ones for her pins. She is someone who had a lot of college scouts talking not only about her size but mainly about her skill-set. Stay tuned because she has only begun to tap into her potential.
Kassidy O’Brien Kassidy O’Brien 5'10" | S Cinco Ranch | 2025 State #19 Nation TX [2025] 5-10 Setter (HS: Cinco Ranch/Club: Houston Skyline/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Kassidy led her Houston Skyline team to some wonderful wins against some big name clubs over the weekend. She is a super talent that is able to set the table for her hitters to eat and also is a stud blocker when she is in the front row. She plays for Cinco Ranch high school in the Katy area and also club for Houston Skyline. The ball comes out of her hands in a quick release and is very accurate to all three locations along the front row. She has the frame and athleticism that college coaches will fall in love with. You can tell when you watch her play that she was born to play this game.
Jenna Garza Jenna Garza 5'7" | S SA O'Connor | 2023 State TX [2023] 5-6 Setter (HS: O’Connor/Club: Alamo/ Verbal: Uncommitted)
Jenna is currently ranked as the 113th best prospect in the 2023 class. She plays for O’Connor high school in the San Antonio area and also for the famed Alamo volleyball club. She doubles as a defensive specialist from time to time also, which makes her extremely valuable to her team. I watched as she as dishing some dimes to her amazing Alamo hitters in a big time challenge match. What was even more astounding was the defense that she was playing out of the right back area. Very few balls hit the floor near her zone. She is very fast on the floor and is able to track down many balls that might be out of system. I loved how she was moving the ball around to all of her hitters evenly which kept the defense off-balance.
Carter Fouche Carter Fouche 5'8" | S Reedy | 2024 State TX [2024] 5-7 Setter (HS: Reedy/Club: Dallas Skyline/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Carter is currently ranked as the 97th best overall prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. She sets at Reedy High School and also club for Dalllas Skyline out of the North Texas region. I have seen her in person twice as she attended our top 250 Expo in December and also this past weekend in Kansas City. She really stood out while I watched her 16 Royal team compete against the other top teams from across the nation. Nothing seems to faze her when she is on the court and no moment is too big. She helps run their six-two offense and her hitters love her accuracy. I like how hard she competes and think that she has a very high ceiling in the position. Carter has great hands and will only get better as she progresses. We will for sure keep watching her journey very closely. Stay tuned for more on this phenom.
