Okay, so here’s the breakdown. We were originally going to drop our next rankings update near the end of the ongoing club season. However, after seeing all this great volleyball in 2022 and getting the opportunity to scout so many players, I figured it was warranted to do a quick update now. It has arrived!
This is also undoubtedly an important time for 2024s. College recruitment for this group is set to open up this summer, and I know many of you are already familiar with the kind of emotions that this moment can provide. We’re going to keep covering as many athletes as we can while this crucial stage approaches.
And, of course, we’re really just getting started with the Class of 2024. There are so many more rankings updates to crank out in the coming months, and our list of 2024 prospects will continue to grow and evolve. Few rankings updates can ever be considered a “final form,” especially with so much volleyball left to be played.
So, that’s a lot of meta-discussion. Let’s get into these new rankings! We’re starting today with a handful of players who are making their first appearance on the list. Note that I’ll be differing some of this update’s new additions to the stock riser feature coming shortly. Keep an eye out for that.
Time to unveil some new names.
Grayson Piening Grayson Piening 5'8" | DS/L Norris | 2024 State NE – 5’8 DS/L – Premier 16 Red
Piening played a big defensive role for Class B runner-up Norris last fall, and she’s doing it again on a 16 Red squad that is loaded with talented backcourt specialists.
Caylee Rowley Caylee Rowley 5'9" | S Waverly | 2024 State NE – 5’9 S – VCNebraska 16 Elite
VCNebraska is fortunate to have two stout setters on the 16 Elite roster. Rowley has certainly been making the most of her on-court opportunities in 2022.
Sage McGill Sage McGill 5'4" | DS/L Omaha Skutt Catholic | 2024 State NE – 5’4 DS/L – Nebraska Elite 16-1
Of course, you can add this Nebraska Elite team to the list of squads loaded with defenders. McGill continues to find her stride this year and has already faced off against some of the nation’s top talent.
Kiersten Runge Kiersten Runge 5'5" | S Lincoln Southwest | 2024 State NE – 5’5 S – VCNebraska 16 Black
Runge is another VCN setter who has put her wide-ranging skillset on display this year. In particular, her right-back defense continues to be an asset for 16 Black.
Makenza Holly Makenza Holly 5'9" | RS Millard North | 2024 State NE – 5’9 MB/RS – Premier 16 Silver
Premier 16 Silver is getting a big boost in this rankings update. Holly is one of the players on this team that can terminate from just about anywhere in any rotation. She has played a massive part in 16 Silver’s recent success.
Anabel Seaman Anabel Seaman 5'6" | S Papillion-La Vista South | 2024 State NE – 5’7 S – Premier 16 Silver
Let’s keep that 16 Silver energy going. Seaman has been a natural leader on the court during this team’s strong run. She connects well with her left-side hitters and is developing some stingy right-back defense.
Rylee Anderson Rylee Anderson 5'8" | S Millard South | 2024 State NE – 5’8 S – Premier 16 Silver
Of course, 16 Silver has multiple major contributors at the setter spot. Anderson can come in and seamlessly take control of the offense and delivers the ball with great consistency and location.
Quinn Groves Quinn Groves 5'5" | DS/L Papillion-La Vista South | 2024 State NE – 5’4 DS/L – Premier 16 Silver
Groves just got a shoutout in our 2024 defensive specialists feature. She plays a very unique role in the libero jersey for 16 Silver and owns that role every time she’s on the court.
Eden Moore Eden Moore 5'10" | RS Waverly | 2024 State NE – 5’10 S/RS – Premier 16 Black
Moore is one of those left-handed athletes who can make a big impact at setter or opposite. She’s been exciting to watch at either position in both high school and club settings.
Brynne Topolski Brynne Topolski 5'11" | RS Lincoln East | 2024 State NE – 5’8 RS – VCNebraska 16 Elite
Topolski is developing some nice range as an attacker for 16 Elite. She also has a well-rounded game that can pay off in serve receive, so watch out for a variety of contributions from this athlete.
Emily Love Emily Love 5'11" | RS Omaha Duchesne | 2024 State NE – 5’11 RS – Nebraska Elite 16-1
Love’s impact with Elite 16-1 can come in the middle or on the right pin. Either position will do! She embodies the kind of flexible mindset that we’ve seen from her entire Nebraska Elite team throughout the year.
Joslyn Rice Joslyn Rice 5'6" | DS/L Waverly | 2024 State NE – 5’6 DS/L – VCNebraska 16 Black
Rice is another player that is gaining momentum in 2022 after a breakout high school season last fall. You can ask her to defend any zone in the backcourt, and she’ll deliver.
Ava Tomlin Ava Tomlin 5'9" | MB Lincoln Southwest | 2024 NE – 5’9 MB – VCNebraska 16 Black
Tomlin’s continued development with 16 Black will be fun to follow. Her elevation in front of the setter has led to plenty of emphatic kills this year.
Julia Trost Julia Trost 5'7" | OH Lincoln Southwest | 2024 State NE – 5’9 OH – VCNebraska 16 Black
Trost is 16 Black’s quintessential six-rotation outside hitter. She locks down middle-back serve receive with the poise of a defensive specialist and can take some tough swings on either pin.
Madison Cude Madison Cude 5'9" | RS Millard North | 2024 State NE – 5’9 RS – Premier 16 Silver
This opposite is always a major source of energy for 16 Silver. Cude is accustomed to locking down the net on the right and has produced some nice stuff blocks over the first half of the 2022 season.
Cecile Ahrens Cecile Ahrens 5'6" | S Millard West | 2024 State NE – 5’6 RS – Premier 16 Red
Ahrens is part of 16 Red’s vast corps of versatile players. This attacker is not afraid to take some out-of-system swings on the right pin and will defend her area of the court with great consistency.
