The event will offer a precious opportunity for club teams from around the Evergreen State to qualify for this year’s USAV Girls 18s Junior National Championship, which will take place in Phoenix, Arizona, from April 22-24.
We’ve already highlighted some of the teams that will be competing for the bid this weekend in previous articles in the current club season, so we’ll take the days leading up to the event to feature some others who also deserve our love.
NW Jrs. 18 UA Black
The top team from the Northwest Juniors Volleyball Club of the Bellevue area have a ninth-place finish in the NW Jrs President Weekend tournament as the highlight of their season so far. 18 UA Black has tallied 12 wins and 16 losses up to this point in 2022.
Players to Watch
Riley Westby – Outside Hitter – HS: Eastside Catholic – 2022
A 5’11” outside hitter with an explosive game at the net, Riley Westby carries a lot of NW Jrs. 18 UA Black’s offensive load. Westby uses her length extremely well at the net and is a very complete hitter, being able to find good angles and unleash power from either the left or right sides. She’s also a very good passer and defender, contributing to the team’s playing system. Westby was in top form during the last high school season, producing 155 kills, 197 passes, 106 digs and 19 aces for Eastside Catholic.
Zoe Smith – Setter – HS: The Bear Creek School – 2022
A reliable and consistent seter, Zoe Smith stands out for playing a simple, yet highly-effective style of volleyball. The 5’6” setter is as reliable as it gets with her location, especially when setting to the left, making her hitters’ lives a lot easier. Smith’s locations are absolutely pinpoint, helping her hitters all achieve high levels of effectiveness in their actions. She’s also great in working with less-than-ideal passes and creating good sets out of them.
Amyah Brown – Libero – HS: Kamiak – 2022
A solid defensive player, Amyah Brown is NW Jrs 18 UA Black’s most used libero. The 5’4” defender was an addition coming from the Blue Royals Volleyball Academy and her presence has helped strengthen the team’s backcourt efforts. Very quick on her movement and with excellent ball control, Brown has registered 35 digs, 57 passes and 13 aces in limited time on the court in the last high school season with Kamiak.
