I’ve been fortunate to cover in-person a lot of what has happened in the Houston area and it’s been really exciting to see some prospects I already knew of find ways to further improve their games and others that I didn’t surprise me with impressive skill sets.
I’ve taken this week to highlight some of the most interesting players I saw during these first four months of coverage in each position and in our final article we’ll feature some truly impressive right sides.
Logan Lednicky Logan Lednicky 6'1" | RS George Ranch | 2022 State #133 Nation TX – H Skyline 18 Royal – HS: George Ranch – 2022
A 6’2” lefty with tremendous athleticism, Logan Lednicky Logan Lednicky 6'1" | RS George Ranch | 2022 State #133 Nation TX was born to play on the right. She’s a beast offensively with her combination of excellent reach, scary firepower and her impressive ability to find unlikely angles. Lednicky is much more than a point scorer, though, as she’s also solid on the backcourt, a shutdown blocker and can also set if needed, as she’s done with her high school team George Ranch in her senior high school season. Recently called up to be a part of the USA Volleyball U20 Training Team, she’s a Texas A&M commit.
Eliza Konvicka – TAV Houston 18 Adidas – HS: Bellaire – 2022
Capable of playing at both pins, Eliza Konvicka has been mostly used on the right for TAV Houston 18 Adidas this season. The 6’2” prospect has a well-developed offensive game, combing the power and physicality of a player of her size with some excellent technique and a wide variety of shots. As she plays as an outside hitter for her high school team Bellaire, Konvicka has also developed her passing and defense over the last few years.
Piper Stephenson Piper Stephenson 6'3" | RS St. Agnes Academy | 2023 State TX – HJV 17 Elite – HS: St. Agnes Academy – 2023
Piper Stephenson Piper Stephenson 6'3" | RS St. Agnes Academy | 2023 State TX is, no question, a powerful hitter with her 6’3” frame and excellent physical tools, but her offensive game goes well beyond that. A Texas Association of Parochial and Private High Schools (TAPPS) State Championship winner with St. Agnes Academy, she is also very intelligent with her shot selection and extremely accurate with her placement. Stephenson has also shown to be a very good blocker.
Taylor Helms Taylor Helms 6'2" | RS Navarro | 2024 State TX – United VBA 16 Purple – HS: Navarro – 2024
Taylor Helms Taylor Helms 6'2" | RS Navarro | 2024 State TX is growing into a player college coaches will want to have on their watch lists as she’s developing to become a great player. She has great size at 6’2” and utilizes it very well to be a force at the net. Helms is very solid offensively, taking advantage of her excellent reach and finding very good angles when hitting the ball, and is also an amazing blocker, combining size and technique, which can be seen in the way she places her hand across the net. She can also play middle.
Taylor Porter Taylor Porter 5'11" | OH Cypress Ranch | 2025 State #85 Nation TX – Houston Skyline 15 Royal – HS: Cypress Ranch – 2025
Taylor Porter Taylor Porter 5'11" | OH Cypress Ranch | 2025 State #85 Nation TX has easily been one of the best class of 2025 players in the Houston area this club season. Originally an outside hitter, she moved to the right during the club season and proved she can carry any team’s offense with her excellent offensive game. Also a high jump athlete, the 5’11” Porter is extremely athletic but her game is also built on her tremendous technique and high volleyball IQ. She’s a lethal hitter, but also adds a lot in terms of passing and defense, helping her team in a lot of different ways.
Sydney Bryant Sydney Bryant 6'3" | OH George Ranch | 2025 State #26 Nation TX – HJV 15 Elite – HS: George Ranch – 2025
Sydney Bryant Sydney Bryant 6'3" | OH George Ranch | 2025 State #26 Nation TX needs to be praised for her versatility too. A middle blocker for George Ranch during the high school season, she moved to the left at the start of the club season with HJV 15 Elite and has more recently been playing on the right. Wherever she is on the court, the 6’3” Bryant impresses with her powerful offense and her ability to hit different sets, quicker or up-and-down ones. She’s also an excellent blocker who’s able to make any opposing hitter’s life miserable with her ability to get stops or, at the very least, alter their shots.
