Standouts at the Motor City Madness Showcase: Class of 2023

<p>The madness was real in the Motor City this past weekend. Some of the top prospects out of Michigan and Ohio were putting their talents on display for the Motor City Madness Showcase. </p> <p>These talents are still uncalled for and looking for their next landing spot in the collegiate ranks. Here were some of the top players from the MCM Showcase.</p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="108755" first="Bella" last="Austin"] (2023) | 6’0 OH | Macomb Dakota/L2</p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="108755" first="Bella" last="Austin"] had a lot of pop to her play on Friday night. She’s a lengthy attacker that can attack the ball at a high altitude and bring down the hammer with a lot of velocity. </p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="152524" first="Molly" last="Banta"] (2023) | 6’0 OH | Marian/Michigan Elite</p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="152524" first="Molly" last="Banta"] has been having a breakout season in the club circuit and she showed up to the MCM Showcase ready to ball out. Banta can bring the heat on her swings, but she’s very versatile as well. Proven to be a team player, often times Banta was seen setting during the team drills and dishing out some dimes. </p> <p><strong>Lauren Boehmer</strong> (2023) | 5’10 OPP | Troy/Michigan Elite</p> <p>She’s the type of attacker to really cause some noise when she plays. <strong>Lauren Boehmer</strong> has been hitting the weight room because her arm swing is heavy! She can light up the toughest of opponents and has a pretty killer cross body swing on the right side. </p> <p><span style="font-size: 1rem;">[player_tooltip player_id="173615" first="Angel" last="Brown"] (2023) | 5’9 OH | Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart/Michigan Elite</span></p> <p>One of the more athletic athletes to step in the gym on Friday was Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart’s [player_tooltip player_id="173615" first="Angel" last="Brown"]. She’s quick, springy and has a whip of an arm on the left pin. I was impressed with Brown’s ability to adjust mid-flight and create a tough ball for defenders during scrimmage play.</p> <p><strong>Katarina Gavric</strong> (2023) | 6’0 OPP | James Madison/Michigan Elite</p> <p>The best things you see at showcases like these are kids that go all out, <strong>Katarina Gavric</strong> understood the assignment. Whether it was on defense or on offense, Gavric is a go-getter! Her attitude and drive was noticeable and fun to watch.</p> <p><strong>Ella Jacobs</strong> (2023) | 5’10 MB | Port Huron/Infinity </p> <p>A little undersized upon first glance for a middle, <strong>Ella Jacobs</strong> plays a very big game. With great footwork in her blocking and transition attacking, Jacobs can play a really efficient game. </p> <p><strong>Sydney Moorer</strong> (2023) | 5’8 S | Southfield Arts and Technology/Fairplay</p> <p><strong>Sydney Moorer</strong> is a smaller setter but she plays with a lot of speed and a high IQ. Her ability to adjust to about any ball and create a great scoring opportunity was impressive. She’s able to run an offense with a lot of speed as well. </p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="180380" first="Maddie" last="Rottman"] (2023) | 5’10 S | Lansing Christian/Michigan Elite</p> <p>One of the top setters in the gym on Friday was easily [player_tooltip player_id="180380" first="Maddie" last="Rottman"]. She has great court awareness and places the ball perfectly anytime, anywhere. But what set her apart even further was her leadership on the court. Rottman is vocal and encouraging to all she played beside. </p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="140492" first="Anna" last="Schriber"] (2023) | 5’11 OPP | Troy/Michigan Elite</p> <p>Another really strong hitter showing off her talents was Michigan Elite’s [player_tooltip player_id="140492" first="Anna" last="Schriber"]. Schriber is a top notch attacker with a very mechanically sound swing. In system or out of system, Schriber showed the ability to be highly efficient with a strong arm and an array of shots.</p> <p><strong>Gabi Stevens</strong> (2023) | 5’11 MB | Davison/Legends</p> <p>One of the top performers from the showcase, <strong>Gabi Stevens</strong> really knows how to make an impression. She’s fast in transition and in her lateral footwork on the block. Stevens is an explosive player that moves well around the net. </p> <p><strong>Alvina Zaitona</strong> (2023) | 5’8 OH | Troy/High Performance</p> <p>A smaller attacker, but <strong>Alvina Zaitona</strong> can really get up above the net. She has a great approach to the game with big leaping abilities. Zaitona showed great range in her offense with really smooth out of system swing. </p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="152531" first="Norah" last="Tisko"] (2023) | 5’6 L | Royal Oak Shrine/Michigan Elite</p> <p>Alongside her teammates Banta and Schriber from Michigan Elite, [player_tooltip player_id="152531" first="Norah" last="Tisko"] was another standout from the MCM Showcase. Very smooth on her movement and mechanically sound, Tisko was balling out. Her defense and reception is top notch and she puts up an impressive out of system set. </p>
