The FAST Pre Nationals tournament has established itself as the final event in the Houston area ahead of the GJNC. This year, the tournament was held in three different venues this past weekend and offered a final opportunity for us to watch some of the best teams in the state before they had to Indiana to fight for the national title.
We were at the FAST Complex on Saturday afternoon watching the 16s and 17s Power Pools and this time will spend not one, but two weeks producing reports about the event. This week we’re focusing on the 16s division and after concluding all of our positional breakdowns, it’s time we select our All-Tournament Team.
Kirra Musgrove Kirra Musgrove 6'2" | S Lutheran South Academy | 2025 State #12 Nation TX – Setter – HJV 15 Elite – HS: Clear Falls – 2025
A talented setter who combines size, skill and impressive maturity at the age of 15, Kirra Musgrove Kirra Musgrove 6'2" | S Lutheran South Academy | 2025 State #12 Nation TX is developing into one of the most promising players in the position in the entire state. She’s an asset at the net at 6’2” and is very smooth and fluid with the ball in her hands. Musgrove has excellent technique but also thrives with her decision-making, two skills that any setter would love to have. She’s also a very good server and can play great defense.
Sydney Bryant Sydney Bryant 6'3" | OH George Ranch | 2025 State #26 Nation TX – Right Side – HJV 15 Elite – HS: George Ranch – 2025
Capable of playing anywhere at the net, Sydney Bryant Sydney Bryant 6'3" | OH George Ranch | 2025 State #26 Nation TX has settled on the right with her HJV 15 Elite team. Her 6’3” frame certainly helps, but she has developed into an interesting hitter, with a nice variety of shots and very good efficiency. Bryant is also a tremendous blocker and does a great job in shutting down opposing hitters.
Caelyn Emmerling – Outside Hitter – TAV Houston 16 Adidas – HS: Grand Oaks – 2024
Very complete at the pin, Caelyn Emmerling was a key piece in her TAV Houston 16 Adidas team with her ability to contribute in a variety of ways. She’s extremely prolific offensively, combining power, length and technique, and is also capable of performing at a very high level on the backcourt. The 6’1” Emmerling also uses her size and power really well from the service line, firing some really hard-to-pass floater serves.
Megan Fitch Megan Fitch 6'1" | OH Cornerstone Christian | 2025 State #43 Nation TX – Outside Hitter – Alamo 15 Premier – HS: Reagan – 2025
Another outside hitter who combines size and excellent technical skills, Megan Fitch Megan Fitch 6'1" | OH Cornerstone Christian | 2025 State #43 Nation TX formed a solid duo at the position in her Alamo 15 Premier team with Mya Allen. The 6’1” pin hitter was a force at the net, hitting a variety of different sets at the same efficiency level and leading her team’s offense. Fitch is also productive from the service line and performs well at the backcourt too.
Jaela Auguste Jaela Auguste 6'0" | MB Grand Oaks | 2024 State #17 Nation TX – Middle Blocker – TAV Houston 16 Adidas – HS: Grand Oaks – 2024
One of the most dominant middle blockers in her age group, Jaela Auguste Jaela Auguste 6'0" | MB Grand Oaks | 2024 State #17 Nation TX showed again how quickly she’s developing. The six-footer always had the physical tools to be a force in the middle, a benefit from also being a track athlete, and her improvement in other areas of the game are translating into even better performances. Auguste is an absolutely elite blocker, with excellent movement and length, and is becoming even more polished on her offense.
Zoe Humphrey Zoe Humphrey 6'2" | MB St. Pius X | 2024 State #32 Nation TX – Middle Blocker – HJV 16 Elite – HS: Klein – 2024
Zoe Humphrey Zoe Humphrey 6'2" | MB St. Pius X | 2024 State #32 Nation TX is another middle who uses her physical tools extremely well. She stands at 6’2” and had impressive mobility, a combination that makes of her a tremendous blocker. Humphrey can not only get anywhere at the net quickly, but she also has the technique and the aggressiveness to really challenge opposing hitters. When in rhythm, she’s also unstoppable on offense as it’s hard to match her contact point and even harder to control her hard-driven hits.
Alice Volpe Alice Volpe 5'5" | DS/L Bridgeland | 2024 State #83 Nation TX – Libero – HJV 16 Elite – HS: Bridgeland – 2024
Alice Volpe Alice Volpe 5'5" | DS/L Bridgeland | 2024 State #83 Nation TX ‘s excellent ball control and positioning make of her one of the best defensive players in her age group in the entire state. The 5’4” libero is extremely confident and reliable and provides her team with excellent support on the backcourt. Volpe is extremely detail-oriented too, meaning she will never be caught out of position or will allow an easy point for not doing what she was supposed to do.
