The FAST Pre Nationals tournament has established itself as the final event in the Houston area ahead of the GJNC. This year, the tournament was held in three different venues this past weekend and offered a final opportunity for us to watch some of the best teams in the state before they had to Indiana to fight for the national title.
We were at the FAST Complex on Saturday afternoon watching the 16s and 17s Power Pools and this time will spend not one, but two weeks producing reports about the event. This week we’re focusing on the 16s division and this time we’ll present some of the most productive right side hitters who featured for their teams.
Samara Coleman Samara Coleman 6'0" | OH Grand Oaks | 2025 State #74 Nation TX – TAV Houston 16 Adidas – HS: Legacy Prep Christian Academy – 2025
Also capable of playing as an outside hitter, Samara Coleman Samara Coleman 6'0" | OH Grand Oaks | 2025 State #74 Nation TX was used on the right on some occasions during the tournament and proved to be a great fit there too. Also a track athlete, the 5’11” Coleman is extremely athletic and can jump out of the gym. Because of that, the offense is the main aspect of her game and Coleman showed she can be just as efficient on the right, making contact with the ball at a very high point and hitting it hard. She also got a very aggressive floating serve, which typically puts opponents in trouble.
Sydney Bryant Sydney Bryant 6'3" | OH George Ranch | 2025 State #26 Nation TX – HJV 15 Elite – HS: George Ranch – 2025
This club season has been one of tremendous growth and learning for Sydney Bryant Sydney Bryant 6'3" | OH George Ranch | 2025 State #26 Nation TX . The 6’3” prospect spent the last high school season as a middle blocker for her George Ranch, but was immediately moved to the outside hitter spot at HJV 15 Elite. Halfway through the season, she moved to the right, where she remains until this point. Bryant added a lot of skills to her game along the way and is now capable of playing anywhere at the net, but the right, where she can fully explore her offensive potential and also make the lives of opposing outside hitters hard with her huge block, is probably the best fit for her right now.
Mia Silva Mia Silva 5'9" | OH Antonian College Prep | 2024 State TX – Alamo 16 Elite – HS: Antonian Prep – 2024
Mia Silva Mia Silva 5'9" | OH Antonian College Prep | 2024 State TX is incredibly productive at the right side of the net, especially considering her 5’9” frame. She’s a player that makes the absolute most of her skills, especially her excellent decision-making at the net.
Lauren Petty – AJV 16 Molten – HS: Home Schooled – 2024
Lauren Petty makes great use of her left arm to be an excellent scoring option for her AJV 16 Molten team. She has good size at 5’10” and plays very aggressively, finding good angles and producing well in sets off the net.
