MB Ava Durgan Renovators 16 National/Mead. The rangy Durgan’s game has grown immensely throughout the club season. She was hammering balls down in transition and made the move up from the Renovators 15 team for the GJNC. She serves a deep, heavy ball when her number is called and is nowhere close to her ceiling as a player. Her footwork is much improved and at nearly 6’2 she will give powerful Mead High School another threat out of the middle for the next three years.
RS/OH Layne Dent PS U15 Navy/Cascade Christian. A 6 rotation attacker, Dent is growing physically, now up to 6’1 and so is her all-around game. A quick arm and good touch on tips help her score, and she can’t be picked on in serve receive with her solid form. This rising sophomore has the foundation for a great all-around game.

MB Grace Williams Dakine Warriors Surf 15/Capital. It’s great to see a tall, young middle develop throughout a club season, and Williams was no exception, rising to the task at Nationals. She was playing balls straight at her overhand and transitioning after making the pass for kills on quicks, and developing her slide routes in collaboration with her setter. It was extremely tough for opponents to handle her when Dakine moved her to the pin in serve receive, letting her swing from the outside versus smaller defenders.
S Petyon Ensign Dakine Warriors Surf 15/Curtis. Ensign sets up her hitters with an advanced feel for what the opposing defense is giving her. She was operating out of the 5-1 and has a strong frame and good push at the net for a setter when blocking, resulting in multiple good block touches for her team. Her chemistry with her middles was strong, and she was comfortable running a fast tempo set to the outside. Her lefty serve was tough to handle and put Dakine in multiple free ball situations during the tournament.
Libero Manaia Alefaio NPJ Seattle 16/Mt Rainier. This is one supremely athletic and gritty freshman defender. She surprised opponents and her team at times with her ability to get to tips and makes terrific use of the pancake when she has to. The North Puget Sound Second Team All-Leaguer makes the routine play look effortless and the impossible cover seem routine. In one match that went to 30 before NPJ ultimately lost, she constantly gave her NPJ attacker’s multiple attempts with epic one-hand stabs and covers.
