We’ve taken a tour around all the other position groups in search of some of Nebraska’s best returning stat stuffers. The middle blocker spot should open up some fun discussions for this series, as we’ve got blocks and attacks to consider here.
Let’s get into it.
Omaha Westside is likely to see prolific performances from many of its frontcourt stars, and TeKrony is definitely one to keep in mind. The Dartmouth commit is strong in front of the setter and will be a vital blocking anchor when she’s on the floor. Nebraska’s 2023 middles will remain a talking point as the fall season gets rolling.
One more season for the Wichita State commit. It’s no wonder why the Shockers were keen on picking up Wolfe, as her huge scoring and blocking totals are reflective of Wolfe’s well-rounded game. Elkhorn is happy to have their veteran middle blocker back for one final outing.
Axtell’s multi-sport star should be back to filling up stat sheets soon. Eckhoff made a splash in every category you’d expect from a middle blocker, and her career progression with the Wildcats has been fun to follow. This fall presents one more opportunity for the senior to showcase her skills.
O’Neill’s dominance at the middle blocker spot has not just yielded some impressive numbers on the prep scene. She was one of the players selected to represent the Great Plains Region at this year’s USAV All-Star Championship, and this small-town talent has represented the state well.
Syracuse will surely be on a mission to get back to the state championships in 2022, and Sisco is a player who can help get it there. She can hit in a variety of spots on the court and is not limited to the traditional attacking routes and approaches for middle blockers. Sisco can even step into the backcourt and rack up some stats there.
Heckenlively’s efficiency and explosiveness at middle blocker are no longer a secret. Her rare effectiveness as a freshman middle blocker was a precursor to her continued success with Premier Nebraska this spring. Gretna’s got a good one.
Beatrice has an intimidating sophomore middle blocker who will get plenty of attacking looks this fall. Gleason had an impressive club campaign while playing up for Nebraska Juniors, and that will translate into more dominance on the prep side. She already accomplished so much in her debut season, so the bar is already high.
Weers can take a big step forward in her second year with Diller-Odell. As a freshman, she helped put a lid on plenty of opposing blockers and provided some automatic defense for the Griffins. I’ve already tabbed Diller-Odell as a championship favorite this season, and Weers’ potential is a reason for that optimism.
