The first weekend of high school volleyball tournaments is officially over. Several huge tournaments around the state took place, and we got a first glimpse of how competitive Texas volleyball can be. We had a lot of upsets, 3-setters, district match-ups, rivalries, and overall good volleyball. Below we will showcase some players who had a really good first weekend.

[player_tooltip player_id='254284' first='Olivia' last='Jones'] - Clear Creek

[player_tooltip player_id='254284' first='Olivia' last='Jones'] stood out this weekend after jumping in and playing 6 rotations in the John Tuner Classic. Not only did she play 6 rotations, but she also showed grit and determination. She was high flying at the net and worked hard on defense.

[player_tooltip player_id='87537' first='Mackenzie' last='Plante'] - Dripping Springs

Mackenzie stood out in their heartbreaking loss to Friendswood. She took control over the offense and demanded the ball in the second set. She was unstoppable at the net, crushing several balls, and making some amazing digs.

[player_tooltip player_id='87548' first='Arissa' last='Smith'] - Ridge Point

Arissa's performance in the John Turner Classic was great. She was a beast at the net, blocking pin to pin very well; it was hard to get anything by her. This attributed to Ridge Point's success over the weekend.

[player_tooltip player_id='142639' first='Peyton' last='Fadal'] - Barbers Hill

Part of Barbers Hill's success over their 7-win weekend was setter, Peyton. She was lights out against Dripping Springs, keeping the tempo very fast, playing defense well, and getting a lot of touches on the block.

[player_tooltip player_id='155127' first='Kinzley' last='Brown-Riggins'] - Crowley

Kinzley was a force at the net over the weekend at the Colony Tournament. Crowley finished first, and Kinzley came away with several monster blocks for points.

Morgan Madison - College Park

Morgan Madison took absolute control of the court for College Park. Serve Receiving over 50% of the court, commanding out-of-system plays, and covering her hitters are just some of the ways. You would never know Morgan was only a sophomore by the way she plays!

[player_tooltip player_id='155122' first='Amelia' last='Creacy'] - Bridgeland

Amelia Came up big for Bridgeland on day 3. Her connection with setter [player_tooltip player_id='446454' first='Lauren' last='Baek'] was outstanding, and she was one of the reasons the Bears overcame powerhouse Stratford.

[player_tooltip player_id='212726' first='Mya' last='Allen'] - San Antonio Reagan

Mya had a stellar weekend for Reagan. She was dependable on the outside and standing at only 5'8, you would never know it because she can fly.

[player_tooltip player_id='197081' first='Carly' last='Chavez'] - O'Connor

O'Connor's libero [player_tooltip player_id='197081' first='Carly' last='Chavez'] is making waves in the San Antonio area. She was a stud for Alamo during the club season and is doing the same thing for O'Connor now. Her amazing plays on defense and coverage are getting her recognition.

[player_tooltip player_id='254089' first='Brooklynn' last='Merrell'] - Tompkins

Tompkins has put a lot of faith in sophomore libero [player_tooltip player_id='254089' first='Brooklynn' last='Merrell']. She's gone above and beyond, outperforming in serve receive. Tompkins is undefeated going into week 2.

Brooklyn Baker - Brazoswood

Brazoswood had a decent first tournament weekend, but libero Brooklyn Baker did a fantastic job. Grinding in defense, she covered so much of the court and gave her team a chance on offense.

[player_tooltip player_id='254303' first='Sophie' last='Corbeil'] - Stratford

Junior outside [player_tooltip player_id='254303' first='Sophie' last='Corbeil'] was absolutely dominant on day one of the KISD/CFISD tournament. She also had a dominant game vs. Grand Oaks. She demanded the ball on offense and helped push Stratford to a really successful weekend.

Falon Buford - Splendora

Out at the Westwood Tournament, setter Falon Buford had a great tournament setting 6 rotations for Splendora. Her setting tempo is fantastic, and at 6'0, she is a great block. Falon is also a lefty, and will often attack tight balls at the net. Overall, she's looking to have a very successful senior year.

[player_tooltip player_id='235997' first='Cali' last='Reece'] - Grand Oaks

Freshman defensive specialist Cali has earned the spotlight for coming in off the bench for Grand Oaks, serving aces, and getting some amazing digs out of the left and middle back.

[player_tooltip player_id='87532' first='Taylor' last='Anderson'] - Cornerstone Christian

Wrapping up volume 1 is setter [player_tooltip player_id='87532' first='Taylor' last='Anderson']. As a senior, she is playing lights out but was also relaxed and focused. She was the glue that held together Cornerstone's lethal offense over the weekend.

If you haven't seen any of these athletes in action yet this season, make plans to do so. They are doing big things for their team, and are commanding the court in their respective areas. Be on the look out for volume 2.
