The idea is to do things a little bit differently this year, so after every match I attend, I’ll be posting a quick article highlighting the players that stood out the most in that particular encounter.
On Tuesday, September 20, the highly-anticipated district match between Bridgeland and Cypress Ranch took place, with the Mustangs coming from behind to win in five sets (16-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-21, 15-12) and improve to 31-2 for the season and remain undefeated in district play, now at 4-0. The Bears are now 3-1 in their district and 28-6 for the season.
Top Performers
Cy Ranch’s star outside hitter had a slow start to the match, struggling with her passing and making questionable decisions on her offense. She was back to her usual self from the second set on, though, and impressed with her aggressive play once again. Muoneke was clearly more confident and made smarter choices on offense besides hammering the ball straight down when she had a chance. She was involved in several key plays in the match, with blocks in important moments and a pivotal ace at the end of the fourth set. Muoneke was also very important for the Mustangs from an emotional standpoint as she would typically be the one pushing her teammates forward in difficult moments.
Kliafas had some difficulties at the start as she had to deal with Cy Ranch’s inconsistent passing, but she did a good job of putting her pin hitters in a good position to score even if out-of-system. Once the team stabilized, she was able to run the offense in her own way and showed a very interesting dynamic as although she was sticking with her most effective hitters, she would always run different plays for them, keeping Bridgeland’s blockers guessing. Kliafas also made numerous digs and was confident and bold enough to come up with setter dumps in key moments of the match.
Highlights
A new addition to Cy Ranch this season, Henderson was probably the team’s most consistent player throughout the match. She had a tough individual battle with Bridgeland’s Rebekah Pfefferkorn Rebekah Pfefferkorn 6’2″ | MB Bridgeland | 2025 State TX and made a great impact in the middle. Henderson hit the ball hard the entire night and had one of her kills make a loud noise when it hit the floor during the fourth set. Her aggressive blocking was also a valuable asset for her team as it ignited Cy Ranch’s comeback to win set two.
Bridgeland’s star libero played lights out on set one, when she dug numerous balls coming from Cy Ranch’s heavy hitters. Her reading from position 5 was outstanding and at times it felt like she could only know what the opposing pin hitters were going to do each time they were set. She thrived in controlling hard-driven hits but also in reacting to tips or balls that deflected off the block and had an unbelievable recover during the third set. Her passing was solid all night too.

Bridgeland’s well-rounded outside hitter played an excellent match, producing in high volume on both sides of the ball. She was set quite often on the left, right and even the backcourt and made very few mistakes. Waggoner remained consistent all match, made good decisions at the net and sided out in key moments of the match, most notably at the end of the second set. She was also always in a great position to play defense, registering a handful of digs.
