Here at PrepDig, we are committed to covering and promoting as many prospects as possible, from the most popular names to the hidden gems that typically abound at the Lone Star State and during the high school season we’re also doing it by featuring the teams they play at.
Every time we’re at the gym, we take the time to give a good look at the teams on the court and we’ll try to feature as many as possible here in this space. The Brenham Cubettes are the next in line.
The Squad
The Cubettes seem poised for another solid campaign in their Division 5A – District 21 as they’re bringing back most of their starters from last season. Brooke Bentke Brooke Bentke 6'2" | OH Brenham | 2023 State #112 Nation TX , Charli Crowson Charli Crowson 6'1" | OH Brenham | 2024 State TX and Kristen Kuehn Kristen Kuehn 5'7" | DS/L Brenham | 2024 State TX form the team’s backbone.
Key Players
One of the most explosive and productive outside hitters in the region, Bentke missed some matches earlier on the season, but is already back at it. She’s a key piece in Brenham’s playing system, offering the team great scoring punch and also defensive solidness. Very long and athletic, Bentke is a formidable hitter, being capable of scoring from anywhere on the court and in a variety of ways. She’s also a very good server and an excellent defensive player. She recently reached 1,500 career kills and 1,200 career digs.
The long and technical setter plays a lot of different roles for Brenham and helps the team in more than one way. Crowson has excellent ball-handling skills and does a great job with her ball distribution, using all of her hitters. She’s also an important offensive piece, hitting when at the net, and had to step up that area of her game while Bentke was out. The 6’1″ Crowson also has a very productive floating serve and plays very good defense.
The dynamic Kuehn plays a key role in Brenham’s passing system. Very reliable, the typically handles with ease the serves that go in her direction. Even when faced with very tough ones, the 5’7″ Kuehn manages to, at the very least, pass the ball high to the center of the court, giving her setter the time to get to it and make a play. She’s also a very good defender and a solid transition setter when needed.
Highlights
Lillie Thibodeaux
Lillie Thibodeaux
Thibodeaux gives Brenham a good presence in the middle. She has good size, long arms and is very active on both sides of the ball. Her blocking is probably the most impressive part of her game as Thibodeaux has a great ability to read plays, react to them and excellent timing for her jump. Offensively, her good leaping and firepower make of her an interesting scoring option when in-system.
Averi Frazier
Averi Frazier
A versatile prospect, Frazier is more often used as a defensive specialist but has been taking on setting duties this season with the Cubettes. She gets in when Crowson is at the net and runs the team’s offense very well, letting her high volleyball IQ dictate her distribution. She can be very precise even when she sets against the flow and is always very calm on the court. Frazier is also, obviously, a very good defensive player.
