As always, we’re aiming for variety in this feature. The Cornhusker State has already seen some standout performances as we wrap up the third week of the regular season, and this is our chance to bring a few more names to the forefront.
Here’s the rundown for Week 3.
It’s nice to see Heidemann back in action. Diller-Odell has clearly relished her return, as the Montana State commit is pumping out almost seven kills per set on a staggering .455 hitting percentage. Those are jaw-dropping numbers that help affirm that Heidemann is back and better than ever.
Jalen Kent
Jalen Kent
Earlier in the week, we mentioned the 8-0 start for Cambridge this fall. Kent has had a lot to do with it. The versatile six-rotation hitter is piling up plenty of numbers in both kills (4.3 per set) and digs (4.4 per set). That kind of balance will likely keep Kent atop Nebraska’s statistical leaderboards for most of the season.
Overton is making a habit of producing some stat stuffers, and that bodes well for the Eagles in 2022. Like most of the players on this feature, Wood’s production comes in a variety of categories. She is putting down balls at an incredible rate and is also adding a good batch of digs and blocks to her credit. Overton’s outside hitter spot is loaded enough to make yet another push to Lincoln for postseason play.
The Sis name still looms large for Papillion-La Vista. Anna’s ample experience at both pins has yielded some reliable production from the senior, as she is hitting about .260 with a high volume of swings on the left side. The Monarchs ought to keep leaning on their senior leader after picking up some impressive victories in early-season action.
Denker got a brief mention after the Heartland Crossroads Invite, but she didn’t just make a big impact on that weekend. She’s been a steady leader for the Tigers since the season started and is accumulating a healthy number of assists to her credit.
Nyah Potthoff
Nyah Potthoff
Gretna needed a new face to step up at the setter spot this year, and Potthoff looks to be the one. The sophomore has set the Dragons to a hot start in 2022 and is averaging almost nine assists per set as a result. Potthoff’s solid debut has given Gretna an extraordinary boost, something that was sorely needed after losing some impactful seniors from last year’s squad.
This dominant senior just keeps thriving. 2022 is certainly not the first year that Hartington Cedar Catholic will lean on Kathol, as the veteran attacker has seen her share of stat-stuffing moments during her career. She has already tallied over 100 total kills this season to go along with her one block per set.
Macie Peters
Macie Peters
Peters has made a sizable jump in production during the early stages of her junior season, landing her some recognition on this feature. She has put down nearly three and a half kills per set for Wood River and is doing at better than .300 hitting. Naturally, Peters’ blocking numbers are keeping pace with her attacking, too.
Vice’s incredible production with Johnson-Brock this year has not gone unnoticed, and this sophomore is just getting started. The Eagles have already played a handful of grueling, marathon matches in 2022, and Vice has regularly kept her team in some of those long rallies.
Worley has long been the tip of the spear for the Kearney backcourt. The senior libero is near the top of Nebraska’s digging charts once again, and she also makes the kind of serve receive contributions that don’t appear on a box score. This is a leader you want on your end line.
