We will be highlighting a few teams that have a chance to do something very special this year if it all works out. Today we bring our attention to Cypress Ranch out of District 16-6A.
The Lady Mustangs are currently 28-2 on the year and looking like a team that will have a chance to battle for the state title in late November. This team’s offensive arsenal is one of the best in the state. I was lucky enough to see them in person at the Volleypalooza tourney a few weeks ago and they were turning heads in every match. We have written about some of these players before and here is a little from our recent articles about them if you need to remember who they are:
Bianna Muoneke Bianna Muoneke 6'0" | OH Cy Ranch | 2023 State #80 Nation TX [2023] 6-0 Outside (HS: Cy Ranch/Club: Houston Juniors /Verbal: Texas A&M)
Bianna is currently ranked as the 11th best overall prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She stars on the outside for Cypress Ranch high school and also for the awesome Houston Juniors program. While I watched her at the Volleypalooza tourney, Miss Muoneke was stellar to say the least in every aspect of the sport. She had almost every spectator in awe of her amazing vertical with every attack. Just when her team needed it, she seemed to revive them with a power shot. The entire varsity team would be electrified with energy with every swing. A player of her caliber brings so much to her team that the stat book doesn’t keep track of. It was so much fun to watch her do her thing at a high level for so many matches. If Cy Ranch goes to state like many think they will, Bianna will be one of the main reasons and has a chance to earn MVP honors.
Taylor Porter Taylor Porter 5'11" | OH Cypress Ranch | 2025 State #85 Nation TX [2025] 5-11 Outside (HS: Cy Ranch/Club: Houston Skyline/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Taylor is currently ranked as the 7th best overall prospect in the 2025 Class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays at Cy Ranch High School and the famed Houston Skyline volleyball program. I have watched Miss Porter play for the past couple of years and she continues to get better and impress every time she steps foot on the court. Her offensive ability is without question one of the most dynamic in the country in her grad class. She is a legit threat to score from anywhere on the court at any given time. Everyone who watches her play will be in awe of what she can do on the offensive end, but they will truly lose their minds when they see just how good she is in the back row. She is able to handle hard driven balls with ease and has such a natural touch on the ball.
Kirby Kliafas Kirby Kliafas 5'10" | S Cypress Ranch | 2023 State TX [2023] 5-10 Libero/Setter (HS: Cy Ranch/Club: Texas Tornados /Verbal: Uncommitted)
Kirby is currently ranked as the 100th best overall prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She is the captain of the ship that steers the offense for Cy Ranch and she also plays for the awesome Texas Tornadoes Volleyball program. I have watched Kirby since she was a young player playing up in older age groups and still standing out. Her athleticism is one aspect that you cannot ignore when you watch her battle in both the setter position and libero position. She is a great setter who is leading this team to greatness this year. They have what it takes to go all the way and she is one of the main reasons why when she runs the 5-1. Those who are in the know about this kiddo already know how great of a libero she is. Any team who picks her up as a libero next year for college will get a phenomenal leader who will keep her squad in the rally no matter what it takes. Her work ethic and desire to improve are unmatched in the gym. One aspect that college coaches will fall in love with is her volleyball IQ as it is off the charts. Stay tuned for a few more articles on this one. She is special.
There are some other studs on this roster that deserve some accolades also. They have two very talented middles in Junior Tya Lynch Tya Lynch 6'0" | MB Cy Ranch | 2024 State TX and Senior JaNyah Henderson JaNyah Henderson 5'11" | MB Cy Ranch | 2023 TX who lead the team in blocks. Junior Libero Gabby Eads Gabby Eads 5'8" | DS/L Cypress Ranch | 2024 TX steadies the ship in the back row and keeps the team in each rally with her ball control. This team is one of the top picks by many publications to go very far in the UIL State Playoffs this year if they stay healthy. They should not have a problem in district other than Bridgeland and have what it takes on their roster to challenge for the state title. We will be watching closely.
