Without a solid setter, a team cannot be as effective offensively. There are several standout setters this season without whom their teams may not be as successful. Some of those setters are highlighted in the nonexclusive list below.
Not only is sophomore Carle the starting setter for the currently undefeated Crusaders, who hold a 29-0 overall record and a 12-0 6A league record, but she also leads the state in total assists. Carle has posted an incredible 864 assists this season as the director of Jesuit’s nearly unstoppable offense. She’s also a skilled defensive player, tallying 221 digs and 5 blocks so far. Carle is steady and consistent on the court, and her ability to run her team’s offense has contributed greatly to Jesuit’s success this year.
Highlights
Doel is a talented and fun setter to watch. She jump sets nearly every ball with flawless precision and puts her sets in a great position for her hitters, including her high scoring pin hitters Amyah Semau Amyah Semau 5’10” | OH West Linn | 2023 State OR and Addie Hoover Addie Hoover 5’9″ | OH West Linn | 2023 State OR . Doel is also an excellent defensive player and flies around the court to better each ball. She is an explosive and high spirited teammate who brings intensity and passion with each point, helping lead West Linn to its current 16-9 overall record and 9-3 6A league record.
Sierra Hale
Sierra Hale
Leading Damascus to its current 31-0 overall record and 16-0 league record is senior Hale, who runs a 6-2 offense alongside the Eagles’ other talented setter, Abbigayle Bailey. The two trade off setting from the back row and hitting on the outside in the front, which has proved to be successful for Damascus, who just won their first 1A league playoff match against North Clackamas Christian. Hale is a skilled all-around athlete, having tabbed 231 kills and 153 aces this season alongside her numerous assists to ensure the Eagles’ offense continues to thrive.
As just a sophomore, Team Captain Mitchell runs Crescent Valley’s talented offense that has led the team to its nearly perfect overall record of 22-2 and its incredible 13-0 5A league record. She’s posted an impressive 551 assists so far this season, along with 197 digs, 102 kills, and 42 aces. Mitchell is a smart player and sees the court well, placing the ball perfectly for her hitters, including top middle hitter Taelyn Bentley Taelyn Bentley 6’0″ | MB Crescent Valley | 2025 State #90 Nation OR .
Highlights
Setting alongside the reigning 6A Southwest Player of the Year, Beaux Bruegman Beaux Bruegman 5’10” | S Sheldon | 2023 OR , is Lewey, who sets from the back row and uses her left-handedness to aid her team to its success as a right side hitter in the front row. Lewey not only puts up solid sets to help run Sheldon’s offense, but she is also a skilled defensive player, recently posting 9 digs against South Medford and 6 digs versus Clackamas. Lewey is a quick and talented player all around.
