Here’s a look at some athletes who stood out:
Bombei is the only senior in the Solon rotation. She takes her leadership role seriously, vocally and by setting an example. She swings well from all of the front spots but seems most comfortable on the right side. She has good timing defensively and offers an effective serve.
Brynn Deike
Brynn Deike
Deike has taken a big step forward this season, becoming one of the better setters in her class. Her sets are on point, and she does a nice job of mixing it up and disguising where she’s going with the ball. She’s not a one-trick pony, either. She swings it well and defends at a high level.
Erwin can inflict damage on the opponent from multiple spots on the court. He shows an impressive vertical jump and high points the ball well. The swing is fast and fluid, and she sees the defense well. Her natural skill set translates well to defense, too.
Aly Stahle
Aly Stahle
Stahle stands out as one of the best athletes when she’s on the floor. Her position on the team’s roster is listed as OH/DS, which speaks to her versatility and broad array of skills. She can dig out power. She can hammer from the outside. She rises up to defend the net. It’s an intriguing package.
Kennedey Whitford
Kennedey Whitford
The freshman does not look like one, meaning she’s advanced beyond her years. Whitford does well at keeping her team in system and organizing the back row. She can dig out pace and deliver precise passes. She shows good footwork and solid technique.
Sell swings it well from the middle of the court and defends the net well thanks to good athleticism. She jumps well and possesses long arms. She can move adeptly laterally and times her blocks attempts well. She also delivers serves that are tough to handle cleanly.
Julius impresses as an all-court player with a well-rounded skill set. She looks most comfortable on the outside, but performs at a high level in the back row as well. While not the tallest player on the outside, she jumps very well and times her hits expertly. Her serve offers good pace and she defends the net consistently.
Averi Nelson
Averi Nelson
The future is bright for this freshman. She shows a good knack for placement with her sets and mixes up her offerings, making it hard to predict where she’s going with the ball. She handles velocity well in digging and moves smoothly into good positions.
