Flint Hill (28-0) – They appear to have no weak spots on their roster. Mickhaila Murray Mickhaila Murray 5'11" | OH Flint Hill | 2024 State VA and Sydney Bryant Sydney Bryant 5'11" | OH Flint Hill | 2023 State #151 Nation VA are proving to be capable left side hitters. At 6″0″ Isabelle gives Flint Hill a giant wall of blockers in the front row. As a frosh Evie Huang Evie Huang 5'6" | DS/L Flint Hill | 2026 State VA has taken over the back row duties and twin sisters Ryla Jones Ryla Jones 6'4" | MB Flint Hill | 2024 State #80 Nation VA and Renee Jones Renee Jones 6'5" | RS Flint Hill | 2025 State #132 Nation FL terrorize from the other right side and middle. Sonja Meyer Sonja Meyer 5'10" | MB Flint Hill | 2023 State VA takes over the other middle. In their 28 victories, they have yet to lose a set. A recent sweep of Colgan was a statement win.
Langley (19-0) – They have a younger team that seems to be clicking as the regular season winds down. They had not lost a set in their last 16 matches, but they stumbled in their last match, losing one game to Herndon. They did lose an early season tournament pool play match 2-0, but since they are not best of three those games are not counted in a team’s won/loss record. Ana Toumazatos Ana Toumazatos 6'1" | OH Langley | 2025 State VA leads the team in kills by a wide margin. Leni Stanton-Parker Leni Stanton-Parker 6'0" | OH Langley | 2025 State #116 Nation VA plays middle and outside and is second on the team in kills but leads the team in blocks. Chloe Hokenson Chloe Hokenson 6'1" | S Langley | 2024 State VA and Claire Mo Claire Mo 5'10" | S Langley | 2026 State VA are the setting combo. Chloe leads the team in aces with a wicked jump serve.
Bishop O’Connell (23-1) – Their only loss was a hard fought five set match to Holy Cross. Holy Cross was last ranked the number two team in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area by the Washington Post while O’Connell was ranked third. Grace Maria Grace Maria 6'2" | OH Bishop O'Connell | 2023 State #150 Nation VA leads the team in kills and service aces and is a key component on defense and in the passing game. Madison Bowser Madison Bowser 6'2" | MB Bishop O'Connell | 2024 State VA leads the team in blocks but is also an offensive contributor in the middle, second on the team in kills. Erin Debiec Erin Debiec 6'1" | S Bishop O'Connell | 2024 State #92 Nation VA and Emily Reyburn Emily Reyburn 5'8" | S Bishop O'Connell | 2024 VA are the setting combo, though there are times when Erin will run a 5/1.
Colgan (24-2) – Their only two losses are to last year’s West Virginia state champions Musselman and Virginia’s number one team Flint Hill. To show you what an impact Brielle Kemavor Brielle Kemavor 6'5" | MB Charles J. Colgan | 2023 State #148 Nation VA has on this team, she leads the team in kills and blocks playing the middle. Against Flint Hill the passing struggled which took her away from the offense. Left side Aubrey Hatch Aubrey Hatch 6'1" | OH Colgan | 2024 State VA is second on the team in kills, first in aces and an important piece of their serve receive game. Paula Sigurani Paula Sigurani 5'4" | DS/L Colgan | 2024 State VA is their libero while Alexis Scipione Alexis Scipione 5'9" | S Colgan | 2023 State VA is the quiet assassin that distributes the sets on the court. She is not one to get overly emotional on the court but you can sense her intensity.
James Woods (20-0) – They may be undefeated but their lack of height would pose problems for them if they played one of the four teams listed above. Since they are a Class 4 rated public high school they will not be playing any of the teams listed above in the playoffs. Two super frosh hit from the outside. Kennedy Spaid Kennedy Spaid 5'11" | OH James Wood | 2026 State VA leads the team in kills while the 5’4″ Brenna Corbin Brenna Corbin 5'5" | DS/L James Wood | 2026 State VA brings her beach game indoors with her shots. Junior setters Paige Ahakuelo Paige Ahakuelo 5'8" | S James Wood | 2024 State VA and Hannah McCullough Hannah McCullough 5'2" | S James Wood | 2024 State VA share setting duties. Hannah is also a top rated beach player who uses her beach instincts to achieve success on the hard court. Libero Carsyn Vincent Carsyn Vincent 5'1" | DS/L James Wood | 2023 State VA leads the team in digs but Brenna also contributes since that is her position in club ball. The 5’8″ middle Ella Kelchner Ella Kelchner 5'8" | MB James Wood | 2023 State VA leads the team in blocks while her counterpart the 5’6″ Lexi Taylor Lexi Taylor 5'6" | MB James Wood | 2024 VA is third in blocks, but is second in aces. This is a team filled with beach players that know how to keep the ball alive. Kennedy is the tallest player on this team at 5’10”.
Battlefield (15-3) – Their only losses are to Colgan, Oakton and Freedom, one team in the top ten and two teams bordering it. They have an impressive roster of players with Grace Bianchi Grace Bianchi 5'7" | OH Battlefield | 2024 State VA and Taelin Connolley Taelin Connolley 5'7" | OH Battlefield | 2024 State VA swinging from the left side and Skyler Tennant Skyler Tennant 5'11" | RS Battlefield | 2025 State VA hammering from the right. Grace has a lightening quick arm swing that puts some velo on the ball. Middle Brianna Clay Brianna Clay 6'2" | MB Battlefield | 2024 State VA has length and can be used to open up the outsides with quicks to the middle. The setting chores are shared by Melorra Arthur Melorra Arthur 5'7" | S Battlefield | 2024 State VA and Aava Shingler Aava Shingler 5'5" | DS/L Battlefield | 2024 State VA who both have good touch on the ball and consistent placement to the pins. Jaelle Hinkle is a solid libero. This is about as complete a team you can get as you head into the playoffs.
Alexandria City (23-2) – We recognize this is a team with two losses to Robinson and finished second to the Rams in the Patriot District. But those are their only two losses. When you have Milan Rex Milan Rex 5'11" | S Alexandria City | 2023 State #147 Nation VA hitting from the outside and Chloe Wilmot Chloe Wilmot 5'9" | S Alexandria City | 2023 State VA feeding her sets in the back and front row, they are a tough team to beat. Rex averages close to six kills per set and leads the team in digs. Chloe leads the team in aces. As long as the Titans have this duo they will be difficult to beat. They have some good alternate pieces in Bridie Wendling Bridie Wendling 5'10" | OH Alexandria City | 2024 State VA , who is second in kills and has improved her game immensely since the season has started. Annalie McCarthy Annalie McCarthy 6'0" | MB Alexandria | 2023 State VA leads the team in blocks and can provide some offense in the middle. Libero Zana Royster Zana Royster 5'6" | DS/L Alexandria City | 2025 VA is a good complement to Milan in the back row. The duo can cover a lot of space on the floor.
Robinson (14-3) – Two of their losses have been to Flint Hill and Langley, while the third was to James Madison. This is a veteran group that will have at least five seniors playing on the court. Paige Meins Paige Meins 5'9" | S Robinson | 2023 State VA leads the offense with her setting. She has one of the best outsides to dish to in Rylah Robinson Rylah Robinson 5'10" | OH J. W. Robinson | 2023 State VA . Rylah may only be 5’9″ but she has a strong arm that finds the open spots. Rosina Parker Rosina Parker OH Robinson | 2023 VA is her partner on the left side. She is pretty terminal whether she is hitting balls from the back row or front row. Chelsea Colter Chelsea Colter MB Robinson | 2023 State VA and Georgia Simonsen Georgia Simonsen 6'1" | MB Robinson | 2025 VA share the middle responsibilities, with sophomore Georgia being the only non senior among the starting group. Emma Cortez Emma Cortez 5'3" | DS/L Robinson | 2023 State VA is a quick libero that can keep rallies alive.
Rock Ridge (18-3) – This is the only top ten team that I have not seen play. I give them their dues for winning the Dulles District. They lost to Stone Bridge when the Bulldogs were going good and in the top ten and they lost to Riverside and Dominion. They have swept 10 time defending champ Loudoun County twice. Hopefully I’ll get to see them in the playoffs.
Patriot (15-6) – They may have six losses but two each were handed to them by Colgan and Battlefield. Another loss was to Colonial Forge, a 16-3 team in Southern Virginia. Dryden Rancourt Dryden Rancourt 5'11" | OH Patriot | 2023 State VA leads with the kills from the left side while her younger sister, frosh Soleil Rancourt Soleil Rancourt 6'2" | OH Patriot | 2026 State VA contributes from the right side. They are first and second on the team in kills. Aria White Aria White 5'7" | OH Patriot | 2023 State VA can also contribute some offense from the left side. Makiya Williams Makiya Williams MB Patriot | 2023 State VA and frosh Sydney Bennett Sydney Bennett 6'2" | MB Patriot | 2026 State VA are strong middles. Sydney leads the team in blocks while Makiya has the best hitting percentage on the team. The setting is shared by Anisa Flowers Anisa Flowers 5'3" | S Patriot | 2025 State VA and Lauren Katz Lauren Katz 5'11" | S Patriot | 2024 State VA . Lauren can stay to play on the right side and is third on the team in blocks. Anisa leads the team in aces. Providing the fuel for the offense is libero Lanie Goff Lanie Goff 5'7" | DS/L Patriot | 2024 State VA , whose passing and digs are what sets this offense in motion. Despite their high number of losses this is a team that has the talent to battle for a State championship.
On the bubble are Millbrook, Oakton, Riverside and Briar Woods. Episcopal in the Independent School League (ISL) is having a strong season and just missed getting in.
Chesapeake Chirps: Bishop O’Connell was almost ambushed by Paul VI in the Panthers gym last night. O’Connell was hit by the flu bug so five of their 12 rostered players were out. This allowed three junior varsity players to get called up to gain some varsity experience. The match went five with O’Connell winning the final 15-11. Grace Maria Grace Maria 6'2" | OH Bishop O'Connell | 2023 State #150 Nation VA , who was not at full strength because of the flu had an incredible match taking 66 swings and finishing with 35 kills. Madison Bowser Madison Bowser 6'2" | MB Bishop O'Connell | 2024 State VA , another player impacted by the flu was quiet for the first four sets but turned it on in the fifth with five of her 11 kills. Frosh Alana Wirth, who came up from the JV finished with 13 digs, two aces and three kills. …In a couple of District playoff matches two defending State champions were swept.
