Up and down the list there are high flyers who know how to score from the outside and versatile six-rotation athletes. Many of the players listed here are state title winners and players of the year, there is no shortage of honors for this group.
Vindivich has a slow-to-fast approach, with the fast portion better described as sudden and terminal. She measures the set, then explodes quickly and delivers kills down the line, or at a hard angle. Blockers seem consistently late, and she is tooling with her good velocity. Watch her smash an overpass and you can see the fast jump and quick arm in action.
The Mead Panthers will miss the outside hitter’s power and consistency next season. She played the middle and the right side early on, but by her junior season cemented her place on the outside with solid passing. The attacking part of her game has always been a strength, and her velocity and range have improved along with her physicality over the past two seasons.
The Spudders senior has a strong overall six-rotation game. She is solid in her attacking and passing and has great timing on the block. An excellent feel for the game goes right along with her academic excellence, and she has earned an appointment to attend and compete at the Naval Academy in Annapolis next season. That is a huge honor and a highly selective process!
Harrell has been torching defenses for four years for Ellensburg, she leaves as one of the all-time greats for the Bulldogs. She capped it all off with a Player of the Year Award in 2A and will play at Villanova last season. She also has one of the all-time best-recruiting videos. She lets her personality show through, it’s a great watch and a lesson in how to do something interesting and different with your video.
The high-level beach prospect never won anything less than a state title while at Chelan. She has three trophies in her bag and if not for 2020 it would likely be four. A complete player in every sense of the word, with good height and length and all the skills earned with all the work in the sand and on the hard court. Her game is controlled, and still powerful at the same time.
Ensign had the special chance to team with her sister and setter Peyton at Curtis this season. Height is not the end all be all of attacking, she proved it this season. Super versatile and powerful at either pin, she was able to attack off one foot, tool blocks, hit shoot sets, rip it down the line and be the number one attacking option at all of 5’8. Competitiveness is Ensign’s greatest strength, she just wants it more than most opponents.
A coach’s kid and another huge winner, Marble seemed to get better as the competition stiffened at the state tournament. The multi-sport athlete is committed to playing volleyball at Central Washington next season and will have a great chance to make an early impact in Ellensburg. Her game is advanced and well rounded, she does not have to blast away to score, but she can and will when its needed.
Highlights
Lake Stevens loses a fixture for their program in Christianson, she has been a super physical presence at the net for the Vikings. Her arm has some real pop, she can play the power game at a high level. Another Washington State player appointed to and playing collegiately at a service academy, Christianson will be headed to play at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs next season. Two players in the same class from the same state, congratulations to both!
Kyleene has been on the radar from an early age in the Washington junior volleyball scene. It did not take long for her to arrive nationally either, verbally committing early on to Florida State. As powerful and skilled as she is indoors, it might be in the sand where she has the highest ceiling. She has been training on the beach side with the USAV National Team Development Program, and watching her display all her skill reminds you she is multi-talented. She could still play setter if needed, her hands are buttery soft, and the set location is on point. She will play both at FSU, and it will be fun to see her career progress.
A 4A state championship was the cherry on top in her last high school season for the Graham-Kapowsin senior. The seventh-seeded Eagles may have been the grittiest team in the state, but they were not the tallest, quickest, or most talented. Brockway put the team on her back, and everyone played their role perfectly to grab the trophy. As a hitter, Brockway can give you any shot needed, her vision, velocity, and variety set her apart from other attackers in the state. She can rip it from any spot front or back row, accurately, or chip/roll it to any location if she wants. Importantly for a player with such a high use rate, she makes relatively few errors. The rest of her game is excellent as well, she gets on the floor defensively, rips a sidewinding serve, and can step in and set a ball comfortably. She was deservedly the 4A State Player of the Year and will compete collegiately at Illinois State.
