There was a ton of talent at the gym and, as we do in each event of the series, it’s time to give a shoutout to some of the players who stood out the most. As we continue to go over every position, today we’ll take the time to feature the right sides who left a very good impression at the Texas Tornados courts.
Morton was one of the smoothest rights sides on the event as she showed great ability to perform in different areas of the game. Her offense is very complete as she’s a good jumper who can hit anywhere on the court, but also displayed tremendous vision and great range with her wrist. Morton’s blocking is solid too as she uses her long arms and great timing well and that became even more evident when she played middle on some drills. She was also one of the more active and engaged players on the defensive drills early on.
Highlights
Milkovisch stood out for her impressive offensive potential. Very long and athletic, she has all the tools to become a formidable hitter. She’s already on the path to do so as she has a strong approach, benefits from her length to have very good range on offense and can hit the ball straight down with power. Milkovisch also proved to be significantly productive from the left and made a good impression with her big and technical block.
Spahn was another right side from the Houston Stellar club to do a great job on the Top 250 Expo. She has just the right combination of size/power and finesse and knows exactly when to use each of her weapons to score from the right. You won’t see Spahn get blocked very often simply because she’s smart enough to make good decisions every single time. Also capable of hitting a slightly higher set down the middle, she’s also very active on defense, quickly dropping from the net and getting in position to make plays.
A lefty, Porath has made great strides from when I last saw her, at the start of the high school season four years ago. Her offense is way more consistent now as she’s found the perfect timing for her approach and has developed a lot of different shots. Porath is very long and is now capable of exploring this asset to the fullest while also adding impressive firepower to her swings. She’s clearly developed on the technical side of things as well as she’s now capable of hitting very sharp angles and of scoring with well-placed tips.
O’Shay is another player from the Katy area that’s only getting better and she had a chance to show it during the Top 250 Expo. Her size has always been an asset, but know her offense is more potent and consistent and she’s developed the ability to hit different sets too. It was also easy to see how much the technical improvement positively affected O’Shay’s mental strength and she looks much more confident on the court now and was repeatedly calling for the ball during scrimmages.
