So, in the wake of our latest 2024 rankings update in Nebraska, we’re going to reset our focus on some of the state’s top-performing uncommitted athletes. Players in this group could be absolute gems at the next level, and we can’t wait to watch the recruiting process unfold further.
As if Hickey’s junior year with Papillion-La Vista was not exciting enough, this savvy setter has a chance to make another huge splash with Premier Nebraska next spring. Hickey led last season’s 16 Gold team to a third-place finish in 16 Open at USAV Nationals, further solidifying Hickey’s standing near the top of our rankings.
Ryan is coming off another brilliant season with Overton and will represent Nebraska Pride in club competition. This small-town Nebraska standout can thrive in just about any frontcourt position, and she reminded us of that versatility when she finished runner-up in Class D2 this November.
Like Ryan, Maser has seen the very top of Nebraska’s prep volleyball hierarchy. She set her Grand Island Central Catholic squad to a state championship this year, and that success ought to translate to another strong season with Nebraska Juniors. Maser has experience playing a year up on the club side and will not be phased by any team across the net.
Cleveringa was another vital component of the aforementioned 16 Gold squad that included Hickey. The North Bend Central superstar has been on championship stages in more than just volleyball, and a stellar 2022 calendar year has kept her among the state’s best in our rankings. Look for another step forward with Premier Nebraska’s new 17s squad.
Papillion-La Vista South had quite a void to fill at the setter spot in 2022, but Dyrstad stepped in and did more than enough to keep the Titans near the top. She helped run a precise, dynamic 6-2 that yielded Papio South’s second-straight state title. Now, this talented 2024 setter will bring that championship experience to the Premier Nebraska gym for another club campaign.
Let’s bring a VCNebraska standout into the mix. Bruning is another small-town standout who is also familiar with the biggest stages that club volleyball has to offer. Regardless of what kind of offense we see from VCN this spring, Bruning will factor heavily in her team’s success. An Open bid remains the goal.
Frickenstein is one of a few Archbishop Bergan athletes who will represent Hardblock during the club season. That kind of synergy is a good harbinger for success, and Frickenstein has already seen her share of success on the high school side. An impressive runner-up finish in Class C2 is a good launching point to the new year.
Highlights
Hanel continues to shine as one of Nebraska’s greatest hidden gems. Well, maybe “hidden” is not the right word for it now that Hanel has stood out in multiple state championship appearances with Clarkson/Leigh. Either way, this middle-outside hybrid has the skills to make a impact against Nebraska’s most formidable teams and players.
We can’t wait to see more of that passion and energy that makes Wolf an extraordinary libero. On the prep side, Wolf had a huge influence in the meteoric rise of Elkhorn North to the top of Class B in just the program’s third year of existence. But, it’s also impossible to forget the magical season Premier 16 Black had this year with Wolf running the team’s floor defense. Buckle up for another thrilling year.
This is a chance at redemption for Jones. After being sidelined for almost all of the 2022 club season, Jones seems to be finding her form at just the right time. She recently shined at our Top 250 Nebraska Expo, setting the stage for a huge comeback with Premier Nebraska in the coming months.
