OVAC: Freshman Phenoms

The following freshmen stood out on their respective teams and are sure to keep us entertained for the next three years.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='529341' first='Jersey' last='Smith'] </strong>- <em>Oak Glen / Setter</em></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Jersey was a very athletic setter, getting her feet to the ball and running her offense with the confidence of an upper classman. As well as being a great setter, she was a great communicator on the court and stayed focused even in the toughest matches, which is not usual in a freshman. Hitting her 1000th assist already in her freshman season, it will be exciting to watch her over the next several years.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Brayley Lash</strong> - <em>Weirton /MH</em></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Brayley did well at the net her freshman season, racking up 103 blocks and making her presence known. She moved well laterally and did well on getting up and over the net. Along with blocking, she helped out with her hitting as well and I am sure we will be seeing big things from her next season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Averi Martin</strong> - <em>Oak Glen / MH</em></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Martin is a quick, athletic middle that can move along the net and put up some big blocks. She adds a strong arm swing, getting off the net and making herself available for her setter, coming up big for her team when they need a point. She finished up her freshman season with 201 kills and I am sure her coach is glad to be returning her to the roster next season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='227809' first='Alaina' last='Auer']</strong> - <em>Crestview/S/OH</em></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Smart, energetic setter with a high court IQ. Although she is a freshman, she plays with a calmness and ease. In addition to her great hands, Auer is a strong defensive player, putting up 260 digs to go along with her 402 assists. She will be one to watch in the upcoming club season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='227813' first='Caroline' last='Hanner']</strong> - <em>Dover/MH</em></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Caroline is a fun player to watch, with a fast efficient arm swing that helps her team in crucial points in the match. She is quick off of the floor and can get above the net to take a big swing or put up a block.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
