Top 10 Setters In Latest 2023 Rankings

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Michigan has never been short on setting talent.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>What we've been seeing more in recent years is that many of the state's top setters are also elite hitters or defenders.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In the Class of 2023, many of the top setters are playing multiple positions, while others have simply established themselves as some of the best in the country at their role.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Here's a look at the last top 10 following our final 2023 player rankings.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2>1. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='66328' first='Ava' last='Sarafa'], Marian/Michigan Elite</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Sarafa has been a standout setter for her entire prep career and has established herself as one of the best in the nation through her club play as well. Sarafa has over 5,000 career assists while approaching 1,000 digs, 300 kills and 200 aces. Sarafa is able to run an offense with incredible speed and precision and always seems to be in complete control on the court. She is heading to Kentucky next fall.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2>2. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='108718' first='Erin' last='Madigan'], Dakota/Legacy</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Madigan is a 6'1” setter with a lot of athleticism and great court awareness. The Arkansas State commit has a high court IQ and plays very up-tempo. Her tireless play leads to a lot of success on defense and a lot of improvised success offensively. Madigan is going to have a lot of success at the next level with hitters that can match her athleticism and vision.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2>3. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='66313' first='Erin' last='Kline'], Mercy/Legacy</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Kline has been a multi-time national champion during her club time as a primary setter for Legacy. During her high school play at Mercy, she's worn many hats to showcase her overall talents and athleticism. The Mississippi State commit can compete with any setter in the state in terms of her touch and location. She's brought out the best in many of the top hitters in the state. As someone who's a strong hitter in her own right, she knows how the setter position can best help hitters succeed.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2>4. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='66343' first='Corrie' last='Wisser'], Hopkins/FaR Out</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Wisser is another multi-talented setter that has been able to be a dominant attacker along with being an elite setter. Just this past prep season, she tallied 890 assists, 330 kills, 428 digs and 127 aces. The Ferris State commit finished with over 2,375 assists in her prep career, along with over 1,000 digs, 760 kills and 325 aces.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2>5. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='66341' first='Hayley' last='Wegener'], Coopersville/Inside Out</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Wegener is listed at 5'11”, but she plays even longer than that. The past few years at Coopersville have brought out a new level to her game as she's been able to take the speed of her game up another notch. The Ferris State commit is able to make all the feeds and put up a solid set from tough angles. Her athleticism carries over defensively as well, as she's quick to react with her blocking and keeping a ball alive during a scramble at the net.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2>6. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='108719' first='Eve' last='Martin'], Lakeland/Legacy</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Martin is yet another setter listed that wears many hats for her team. She's one of the more underrated players in the state, as she impacts so many areas of the game. A very calm and collected setter that has especially brought the best out of her middles, Martin has full command of her offense. When shifting to a hitter, she's got a unique swing that delivers a very powerful spike. The same can be said for her serve, which has been a big strength for the Lakeland program. Then there's her defense, which has improved a great deal each season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2>7. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='173601' first='Jenna' last='Sayles'], Davison/Five:1</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Sayles has gone somewhat overlooked due to the strength of setters around the state and not far from Davison, but she's among the top setter/defender combos there are. A scrappy player with a lot of drive and focus, Sayles is a natural leader on the floor. Not only does she make the tough plays and put her body on the line to do so, she communicates well and has gotten the most out of her hitters.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2>8. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='66331' first='Margo' last='Sudzina'], Notre Dame Prep/Michigan Elite</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Sudzina has been a big piece of Notre Dame Prep's success for years, but was somewhat of an unsung hero behind a collection of elite talent at the program. This past season showed just how valuable she really is. Playing in a setter and DS role, she approached 1,000 assists but also had over 250 digs with 80 aces. Sudzina was a flash of lightning around the floor in terms of getting to every spot needed to make a play. But, she was also a clear vocal leader on the floor for a team working in a lot of new pieces.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2>9. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='66304' first='Megan' last='Grose'], St. Catherine/L2</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Grose is a tremendous athlete with a lot of explosiveness and power in her overall game. She's very quick on her feet and has instincts that are helpful everywhere on the court. As a primary setter, she's very composed at the position and knows where the ball needs to go, as she reads a defense well. Grose is also capable of getting aggressive, whether it be with a timely dump, or using her athleticism for a powerful swing. Defensively and from the service line, Grose can compete with anyone as well.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2>10. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='66300' first='Paige' last='Elliott'], Country Day/L2</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Elliott has been another player that has excelled as a defender and setter. Elliott is a selfless player that has always been willing to play wherever her team needs her. That's allowed her put together a complete game. She's fundamentally sound in the back row and always looks the ball into her arms for a pass or dig. As a setter, she's been able to work with great hitters at DCD, but her setting has also allowed those hitters to shine through. She's had to raise her level of play and speed to keep up and done so quite well.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
