The 17 Black roster for FaR Out can hang with anyone in the Midwest and make some noise on the national scene as well.

Here's a closer look at this team, coached by Charley Andrews, and what they've done this year.

Versatile Roster of Hitters

FaR Out 17 Black is a 17-player roster with a lot of hitters that can be moved around to provide plenty of flexibility with the lineup. [player_tooltip player_id='523843' first='Addison' last='Naplin'], [player_tooltip player_id='839515' first='Whitney' last='Swiercz'], [player_tooltip player_id='467951' first='Rylee' last='Paddock'], [player_tooltip player_id='846051' first='Nora' last='Vanderweele'], and [player_tooltip player_id='490371' first='Brooklynn' last='Brassard'] are all capable of playing on either end of the net and be effective. This is a real wealth of talent to have at your disposal. This group features a wide range of size and length, but plenty of explosiveness and ability to dominate a match. Setters don't need to focus on a single player, and can keep the offense balanced and unpredictable. In the middle, Jenna Patten, [player_tooltip player_id='826916' first='Kyra' last='Vukovic'], and [player_tooltip player_id='908353' first='Kenna' last='Deters'] handle the duties. Vukovic is 6'4” and also a basketball standout, which makes her a real threat with her footwork and agility to go with that elite length. Deters is coming off a great fall season while Patten has a lot of lift off the floor and stays aggressive defensively.

Two Setter System

When it comes to getting the ball to the hitters, that's on [player_tooltip player_id='742026' first='Rylee' last='Anderson'] and [player_tooltip player_id='523841' first='Taylor' last='Frost']. These two both come from the Grand Rapids Christian program, which has had a long history of talented setters. Frost is a combo player that can also move to the right side, where she has a strong finishing rate. Both players have a good feel for the offense and the hitters and can play knowing that their hitters can make the most out of any ball, so the pressure isn't on them to be perfect.

Defensive Standouts

[player_tooltip player_id='502408' first='Kayleigh' last='Miersen'] is the primary defender on the squad after earning AAU All-American honors in 2025. The Caledonia product just has a knack for the position and anticipates the ball very well. She stays composed and manages great first contact no matter how frenzied the point gets. Paddock is also a player that can move in to a back-row role when needed. She established herself as an elite defender years ago before also developing into a powerful outside.

Expectations

Results have been largely positive for FaR Out 17 Black. They started with a top-3 finish at The Nike Classic in the 17 Open and have since got some great experience against elite teams at Triple Crown and the Bluegrass Tournament. Triple Crown started with some tough losses, but then they pushed opponents to three sets in their next two losses. They could have hung their head, but instead responded with five straight wins to close out the weekend. In the Bluegrass Tournament, FaR Out went on to win their last three matches coming off a loss. That's been a big positive for the season, this team's ability to respond to adversity. It should continue to push them to new heights in the months ahead.
