Continue ReadingI’m the only scout for the state of Indiana. There have been, are, and always will be times that I will miss players simply because it’s impossible to see them all. Additionally, the younger they are, the more likely I might miss them. Here are five outstanding athletes that were missing from the previous rankings in August, but have turned enough heads to give me a heads-up and watch.
Abigail Kaminski Abigail Kaminski 5'10" | OH Franklin Central | 2025 State IN , 5-10 OH, Franklin Central, Academy
A long and lean outside, Miss Kaminski is a six-rotation, primary-passing athlete that plays for a high school not known for high level ball. She has a whip of an arm, can hit all the shots in the book, has excellent court vision, and already plays above her grade level. I like her added ability to attack from the back row as well; not too many at this age group do it with such ease.
Isabelle Jackson Isabelle Jackson 5'9" | S Westfield | 2025 State IN , 5-9 S, Westfield, Circle City
Yes, it does help to attend an expo of ours! Miss Jackson was part of a 6-2 of a super young high school squad. She has high, accurate hands, locates the ball well, defends her position at an above-average level, and has quick feet to get her to any ball. A recent transfer from Boiler Juniors, Isabelle should make an immediate impact for Circle’s 16 Black squad.
Brooklyn Borden Brooklyn Borden 5'9" | DS/L Providence | 2025 State IN , 5-9 DS/L, Providence, KIVA
Crossing the Ohio River to play club ball, Miss Borden excels at left back and stays on her feet longer than most defenders, regardless of class. Her accuracy and consistency would make her a libero on any other high school team in the state, and is only getting better while training at KIVA. You can find her on the 16 White roster.
Emily Grow Emily Grow 5'8" | DS/L New Castle | 2025 State IN , 5-8 DS/L, New Castle, Munciana
A few months ago, I had the pleasure of reffing a scrimmage at New Castle. It was the first time I had ever been to the largest high school gym in the country, known for hosting some of the toughest high school basketball contests ever seen in the Hoosier State. Not too long ago, New Castle was also a volleyball power, winning a pair of state titles with a couple of kids sharing the last name Shaffmaster. Fast-forward to this past August, and I got a chance to watch Miss Grow work. Emily excels at the read-and-react nature attributed to being a ‘bro at the next level. She’s left-back heavy, but could easily defend all three positions at the next level.
Kennedy Horn Kennedy Horn 6'3" | MB Columbus North | 2025 State IN , 6-3 MB, Columbus North, Cougar
Playing for a small, regional club, Miss Horn can take over a match with her size and strength. Although known more for her basketball skills, she absolutely used her sophomore season to take over defensively at the net this past fall. Averaging two blocks per set, she was one of the only kids in the state to average that many, regardless of class. Once her offensive skills catch up, this will be a no-doubt recruit that has size, which you just can’t teach.
