Most of the top prospects in the region will be on the court and we’ll use the week to highlight some of the most promising players who will be battling in the Alamo City over the weekend. Here are some outside hitters who are poised to leave a great impression and help their teams succeed in the event:
Halstead is one of the cornerstones of the Alamo 18 Premier team that will be among the contenders in the 17-18 Girls Division. What makes her so important to every team she plays is her ability to perform different roles and how efficient she is with each of her actions. Halstead is very complete offensively and an extremely productive scorer not only from the left and the right, but also from the back and the middle. She’s very consistent with her play and is also a solid contributor on the backcourt with her solid passing and strong defense.
Expect McAda to be the main hitter of her SA Magic 18 Elite team in the 17-18 Girls division. She has tremendous firepower on her right arm and is extremely effective with her offense. Several things make her so productive, but perhaps the most important of them all is her decision-making as McAda rarely chooses to challenge the block or attempts an unreasonable move. She gets set quite often and consistently responds well to it, scoring in high volume and in big moments. She’ll play indoor and beach at the collegiate level and is a very complete player.
A national champion with Alamo last year, Allen switched clubs this season, joining San Antonio Juniors , and is playing one age group up with 17 Adidas. She’s a tremendously explosive and incredibly technical outside, who can thrive in any situation. Allen is at her best hitting a quick set at the pin, but has the technical and mental resources to find crafty solutions to any kind of play. She’s also an excellent defensive player and another thing that sets her apart is her ability to be consistently good, especially in big moments.

After having an excellent high school season with Davenport, Dodson has maintained the same level of play with Alamo 17 Premier. Her game has a really good mix between athleticism and skill, which avoids that she over-relies on one or the other. Dodson is a very complete player, who’s capable of causing great impact both at the net and on the backcourt. She uses her hangtime extremely well to create a timing advantage against the block and find very good angles to score.
The MVP in Alamo’s victory at last year’s USAV 15 Open Division, Fitch and her Alamo 16 Premier teammates will be challenging older opponents in the 17-18 Girls division. It they go well, it’s very likely Fitch will have something to do with it as she’s shown she can go against anyone right now. She checks all the boxes when you think of an elite outside hitter and, perhaps even more than her size and her power, what makes of her is the incredibly high volleyball IQ she displays from such a young age. That gives her the ability to consistently make the right choices, increasing her efficiency and limiting her errors.
