Texas HS: Tompkins beat Taylor on the road in district match

The visiting Falcons dominated most of the match and walked away with a 3-1 (25-17, 25-22, 24-26, 25-14) victory.</p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/grtorres/status/2092421410366824580?s=20 </div></figure>   <p>With the victory, Tompkins now have a 2-0 win record in District 19 and stand at 12-1 for the season. Taylor have a win and a loss in district play and an 8-11 win record for the season.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Players of the Match</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">Kitts was excellent at the net for the Falcons and had a key role in their second district win of the season. The senior's blocking was a big factor in the game and kept Taylor's under constant pressure when she was on the court. Kitts read opponents extremely well, moved very efficiently, and, besides getting several stops, stepped up in key moments, helping her team create separation or ending a good run from their opponents. She also performed well offensively, firing powerful swings that had no answer from the Mustangs.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepdig.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2026/08/2J4A0025.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1022776" /></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">Merrell had a great night at the setter position and contributed to Tompkins' strong display. Her distribution was always on point and helped the Falcons' offense to continue running at a good rhythm even in the moments in which their overall game oscillated. Merrell used her middles at the right moments, putting them in a position to capitalize on their height advantage, and fed her pin hitters with excellent sets against the flow. The senior also served very well during the entire match, and many of her team's scoring runs started with her at the service line.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/grtorres/status/2092400273700335666?s=20 </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">Playing on the right, Manley was a reliable scoring option for Tompkins and provided some stability to the team's offense. The junior's level of play was very steady throughout the match, and her high efficiency made of her the hitter the setter turned to in decisive moments. Manley showed excellent court vision with her swings, consistently picking the right shots to beat blockers and defenders and put the ball down. The junior made very few errors, too, showing great maturity and a high volleyball IQ.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepdig.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2026/08/2J4A0046_1c152a.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1022783" /></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">Williams was inserted into Tompkins' starting lineup to replace junior [player_tooltip player_id='745042' first='Elsa' last='St Rose'] and had a solid performance, playing her role in the team's victory with good production. A freshman, she did well offensively, stepping up to put the ball down in difficult plays and producing at a consistent rate. Williams got off the floor well and showed remarkable firepower to overcome blockers at the net, but also demonstrated solid vision and decision-making, scoring off tips and shots. The pin hitter also handled the few serves that went her way efficiently.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepdig.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2026/08/2J4A0038_7d5409.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1022780" /></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">Simoncic was excellent offensively for the Mustangs in the match in which she surpassed the mark of 1,000 career kills. The senior right side was easily the player with the most swings on the court and did well in carrying her team's offense, registering 23 kills and putting the ball from basically everywhere on the court. A lefty, Simoncic fired some impressive swings to beat Tompkins' blocking, but also showed great vision and resourcefulness to score with tips in out-of-system plays. She also registered two aces, two blocks and ten digs in a strong all-around performance.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/grtorres/status/2092407571382460865?s=20 </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">Thiele demonstrated great maturity and understanding of the game to implement her distribution strategy according to what the game required. The freshman did a good job of keeping all hitters involved when Taylor's game was flowing, but became more pragmatic and turned to Simoncic more often when the team went through difficult moments. Thiele was very creative and aggressive with her setter dumps and found different ways to put the ball down, including a powerful left-handed swing.
