Continue ReadingThe G3VB 18-1 team has had a great season so far, having dropped only two matches in the 18U Power League and securing a strong 10-2 record. Because of the team’s excellent playing, it is currently ranked 5th out of 66 teams in the 18U division, showing that they are one of the top teams in the region outside of the open division. Nationally, the G3 18-1s had a lot of success in Las Vegas over President’s Day weekend, coming in 5th out of 144 teams in the Gold division. It will be exciting to see how the team continues to progress over the last couple months of the season. The G3 18-1s team is coached by Jeff Megy, a returning G3VB coach.
Lauren Bernt
Lauren Bernt
Bernt, a utility player who played as a defensive specialist during her high school season, is playing out of the middle this club season and is doing quite well despite being a bit undersized. Bernt transitions quickly, has a fast and explosive approach, and does a good job of hitting off of and around the block. When she plays back row, Bernt’s experience as a DS shines through as she picks up tricky shots and hits on defense.
Hannah Brunston
Hannah Brunston
COMMITTED: Bushnell University
Brunston, a setter who recently committed to playing at Bushnell University next year, runs the 18-1 team’s offense effectively. Brunston is strong, pushing the ball from one pin to the other and throwing off the opposing side’s block. She places each set well for her attackers, too, and mixes up her sets to keep opponents on their toes. Brunston is a smart player, seeing the openings on the other side and occasionally dumping the ball on two into open court.
Street is currently ranked third for the DS/L position for the class of 2024, and it’s no surprise why she’s ranked so high: Street is an incredibly skilled and disciplined back row player, and her consistency on serve receive and in defense makes her a top notch libero. Not only is Street a talented passer, but she is also good at taking the second ball when needed and keeping her team’s offense in play. From the base line, Street has an incredibly tough and unfailing serve, adding even further to her all-around athleticism on the court.
Highlights
Coming off of a hot high school season where she earned PacWest Conference Second Team honors is Tegner, an outside hitter and defensive specialist. This club season, Tegner is primarily playing from the back row, and she is contributing nicely to the 18-1’s strong defense. Tegner is an energetic, vocal athlete who is not afraid to bounce and dive around the court to make great plays.
COMMITTED: Linn-Benton Community College
Willard, who sets for her high school team, is playing as one of the G3 18-1’s six-rotation outside hitters this season, showing her all-around talent and skill. Willard is a steady and strong player both offensively and defensively. When she’s hitting from the front row, Willard frequently manages to find open court, making smart shots and scoring for her team. With a fast arm and powerful approach, Willard can also put the ball away effectively. On serve receive and defense, Willard is a disciplined and consistent passer, showing her ability to play from anywhere on the court. The senior recently committed to play at Linn-Benton CC next fall.
