This is widely regarded as one of the toughest qualifiers of the year in the nation due to the strength of the teams in the lone star state and also because of the teams who travel from all over the country to play in it. We were lucky enough to be able to watch the elite competition over all three days and are starting this series of articles on players that stood out to us for various reasons. We are going to start with some awesome liberos who stole the show. Here are a few of them:
Anna Arceneaux Anna Arceneaux 5'6" | DS/L Antonian College Preparatory | 2025 State TX [2025] 5-6 Libero (HS: Antonian Prep/Club: San Antonio/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Anna is currently ranked as the 52nd best overall prospect in the 2025 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays at Antonian Prep High School and also for the San Antonio Juniors club program. There are liberos who stand out in either serve receive or defense and then there are liberos like Anna who can do it all. What makes her a stud in my eyes is just how focused she is on the court. She has a superb “game face” and you can always count on her to want to have a deep desire to be on the court and want to win. She definitely has that “Mamba Mentality” that you want in a warrior. One aspect that truly stands out while I watched her perform is how she uses her platform during all aspects of ball control. She is especially strong and holds her platform very still at contact in order to ensure that the ball is being delivered consistently to her target. Her arms are a little longer than other players her size and that helps her to have an extended range defensively. Her coaches can always count on Miss Arceneaux to create a perfect angle to rebound the ball toward her setter. I also love how accurate her serves are as I watched her deliver stifling balls to the opposing receivers during the three sets I watched. Her play was crucial to her squad as she helped lead them to earning a bid to USA Junior Nationals in Chicago this summer.
Audrey St.Clair Audrey St.Clair 5'8" | DS/L Rockwall | 2026 State TX [2026] 5-8 Libero (HS: Rockwall/Club: 1United/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Audrey is currently an unranked prospect according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but she is listed on our watch list and should have no problem making it once we update them in a few months. She plays at Rockwall High School and also for the newly formed 1United club volleyball program. Audrey is no stranger to us as she has attended a few of our showcases and has earned Top Performer from them as well. I have been able to watch her in person a few times and I am super impressed with a few aspects of her game. The most impressive aspect in my opinion has to be her volleyball IQ. I have not seen many players call zones for their team as usually it is the head or assistant coach who calls them for the team’s servers. But this says a ton about the trust that their head coach has in Audrey in order to let her give zones to her teammates while she is on the court. I watched her study the opposing team and pick them apart as if she was playing a video game. This young lady is not playing checkers…she’s playing chess! The other aspect of her game is how she is able to spread the ball around to her hitters during second contact. She is tasked at taking the second ball like many other liberos after the setter digs the first ball. The way she moved it around to both pins and even went against flow multiple times shows me that she understands spread offense techniques. I can’t wait to update the rankings because she is definitely at the top of my list to add with everything I have seen over the last few months.
Julianna Hernandez Julianna Hernandez 5'6" | DS/L Frisco Memorial | 2026 State TX [2026] 5-6 Libero (HS: Frisco Memorial/Club: Texas Advantage /Verbal: Uncommitted)
Julianna is currently ranked as the 6th best overall prospect and top libero according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings in the 2026 class. She plays at Frisco Memorial High School and also plays club for the famed Texas Advantage Volleyball program. This young lady can do it all on the court. Her ability to dig at a high level consistently at the Open division was what kept me watching her court. This awesome squad was able to win the championship of the 15 Open division and Miss Hernandez was one huge reason why. She shares the back row with a few amazing teammates and commands the court when she is in. Her ability to track the ball and quickly move her feet to be in position is amazing. I love how she stays supremely balanced while moving and at contact of the ball. By using super fast foot-speed, there is not a ball that she cannot track down on the court. Any shanked balls that might go out of bounds are saved by her speed and this leads to her team staying in the rally. She also does a fantastic job of collapsing her entire body to absorb the contact of hard driven balls. This keeps the ball on her side of the court so that her setter can run a solid offense. Although it might be early to recruit this grad class, Julianna is one name you need to keep on your short list of liberos to watch.
