Teams from Texas are all ramping up in order to bring their best game in the most important moment of the season and even those that won’t make the trip to Chicago are also in their best form after months of practice and competing together.
This past weekend, we followed one of the tournaments that were going on in the Houston area, the Skyline Classic #10, held at the popular Houston Skyline Volleyball Club. We were following the 17 Girls Division, which had nine teams from the region in action, and are bringing our positional reports and All-Tournament team selection during the week.
As we complete our positional breakdowns, here are five right side hitters who had great performances:
Henderson was one of the most powerful hitter in the tournament and played a big part in TX Legacy 17 Elite’s victory in the division. Besides having very good offensive range, she also made a strong approach every time she went up to swing and was great at adjusting her body’s positioning while in the air, which gave her the ability to hit different sets with similar efficiency. Henderson displayed a very complete offensive game, hitting in every different direction, and was very effective from both the right and the left.
Highlights
Rio played on the right for H Skyline 17 White and her length and strong offensive game proved to be a good fit for the position. She used her physical tools well and, besides having excellent reach and length, also displayed impressive firepower, especially in system. Rio was also smart enough to turn to tips and roll shots when the situation called for it. She also had a strong blocking presence, often standing in the way of opposing pin hitters.

Alexis Waddy
Alexis Waddy
Waddy delivered a lot in terms of production and efficiency on the right for her W Revolution 17 Premier team. Although not the tallest hitter, she used her technical skills to perfection in order to score at the net. Waddy didn’t waste of swimming hard when in 1v1 situations, but was smart to hit around the block when the scenario wasn’t as promising. Very resourceful at the net, Waddy made very few mistakes too. She was a part of the team’s serve-receive system too and helped with some digs.
Raychel Battles
Raychel Battles
Battles’ game is still a work in progress, especially in terms of being consistent, but she showcased enough with Xcel VB 171 Adidas in order to leave a positive impression about her potential. She makes contact with the ball at a very high point, fully stretching her arm to swing, and can hit the ball really hard when in system. Battles also had a strong potential with her blocking, which is very big and often well-positioned.
Arianna Watts
Arianna Watts
A lefty, Watts showed some good things with Katy United 17 Fathom. She’s not very tall, but managed to beat the big blocks that stood in her way with her technical skills. Watts is really good at tooling the block and scoring with well-placed shots and tips. Her efficiency level when out of system or when dealing with short or low sets was also remarkable.
