Continue ReadingThe OJVA 16-3 White team has proven very competitive this season. Unsuspecting, as a 3’s team, this group has battled with some of the top teams in the 16U region. Last season’s 16-3 team finished 32nd in the region, which with no Open division, is a decent finish. However, with an 11-9 record across the Power League tournaments, they had an excellent showing at the final tournament to secure a spot in Flight 1. Heading into Regionals seeded #8, the team is sure to face some tough competition. However, they have proven that they can battle! The head coach of this team is Colorado transplant Nathan May. Assisting him is CEVA and University of Idaho alum Tineke Bierma.
Josey Edwards
Josey Edwards
Edwards is an athletic attacker. Playing primarily as a middle this season, she has developed a good connection with her setters. On the attack, she has a strong and powerful swing. From the service line, she has a tough standing float that garners plenty of aces and service disruptions.
Maddy Galstad
Maddy Galstad
Galstad has been an anchor to the OJVA 16-3 team’s back row. Her ball control over the course of this season has greatly improved. She has been a major factor in this team’s ability to compete with top teams in the region. Her defensive pursuits and consistent serve-receive passing have been key in keeping them in system.
Powers, who has been with the club since 5th grade, has really come into her own this season. As a setter/defensive specialist, she confidently runs the court. Either running a 5-1 or splitting duties with Claire Coffey, she has proven indispensable to this team’s success. She showcases natural leadership on the court.

Paola Reyes
Reyes is an athletic six-rotation outside hitter. Although undersized, standing at 5’5”, she has some serious hops and is smart with placement. She is a go-to hitter for this group and has been a critical component of the team’s success. She is a positive force on the court, leading her teammates through some big matches.
Bailey Shields
Bailey Shields
Shields is a middle blocker for the OJVA 16-3 team. She has shown steady and significant improvement this season. Her aggressive net play as a blocker has been a major contributor to shutting down the opponent’s offense. She is smart about her placement of a tip, but with a strong arm, she can rip at the ball as well.
