The culminating event for the CEVA club season is the Regional tournament. Taking place at the Portland Expo center across two days, hundreds of teams took the court to secure their final standing for the season. We were able to see some of the best athletes from Oregon and SW Washington compete and took note of the stellar performances we saw. We will be featuring those athletes who impressed us throughout the coming weeks.
Without further ado, here are the 2024 middle blockers who had standout performances.
With Elizabeth Andrews not in attendance for Regionals (she is playing for USAV U19, no big deal!) Lansing found a home back in the middle for the weekend. This transition was seamless given that she has been a middle for 99% of her career. Quick in transition, she had some electrifying swings that resulted in kills. She was a major contributor both as an attacker and as a blocker.
Leluge was instrumental in the NPJ 18 Forefront team winning the Open division over the weekend. She is an athletic middle hitter with an explosive approach and an incredibly high reach on the ball. She is fast in transition and consistently makes herself readily available to her setters. Her blocking shut down many hitters over the two days, creating a wall that opponents struggled to swing around.
Although undersized for a middle, she used her athleticism and speed to contribute to the NPJ 17-1 team over Regionals. Despite her height, she is explosive, with a high vertical jump, proving she can be terminal at a high level. She showcases a lot of range in her attacking angles and is smart about where she places the ball.
Williams took on a large offensive load this weekend with Sydney Dreves not hitting; she really stepped up. While she can hit a range of sets, her attack on the slide proved hard to receive. Running a 5-1 on Sunday, this was a terminal option for the team. She is a physical middle blocker who showcases quick footwork and puts up a solid block at the pins.
