Grace Malek
Grace Malek
Malek is super athletic and as a setter she can move the ball around quickly from pin to pin or quick tempo in the middle. As an attacker she can pound the line as well as put up a big block against the opponents outside hitter.
Taylor Jeffers
Taylor Jeffers
Jeffers is quick moving across the court. She doesn’t hesitate to chase down a stray pass. Jeffers is also really good at taking an out of system pass and creating an opportunity for her hitters to attack the ball.
Addison Bowen
Addison Bowen
I was suprised to see Bowen was listed as a 2028 and I normally would not write about a 2028 because we like to have a more hands off approach when they are that young. But, if she is playing up 2 age groups I think it is worth noting that she is doing a solid job and caught my eye as she hustled to the chase down a pass gone off course. She could be one to add to the radar in the future.
Raniyah Preston
Raniyah Preston
Preston caught my eye with her ability to effortlessly push the ball to the outside pin really fast. Her teammate, Tenley Davis, would be up in the air as she is setting it and she had complete faith and trust in Preston to put that ball right in her hand. And it wasn’t just one but multiple times. Their connection just got better and better as the tournament went on.
I saw Carr a lot at the Prep Dig Battle at the Bay but I was excited to get another chance to see her some more at the Chi-Town Classic. She has a lot of length and natural athleticism. Carr is strong and can move the ball around while jump setting easily. BUT what I loved most was what I saw on the sidelines. Her teammate missed a serve and came out of the game and Carr was this genuinely super positive greeter. I then noticed her constantly building her teammates up and she might be the ultimate hype woman if you need one!
Highlights
Guld has this way of taking whatever pass she is given and turning it into gold. She runs a really fast tempo offense with 17 National while also playing some really gritty defense. Guld makes smart choices and instead of just finding a hot hand she heats hands up.
Jocelyn Taveras
Jocelyn Taveras
Taveras is a talented athlete that could probably do just about anything you ask her to. In the front row she was taking dynamic swings from either pin and in the back row she was play super scrappy defense and jump setting with ease. Taveras is smart, strategic and consistent.
Sommer can do just about anything. She comes from a small high school where she sets and plays middle. In club ball she typically swings from the pins and sets. She does a great job of giving her attackers a hittable ball. When she goes up to swing she can hang and pulls the trigger at just the right moment.
