The Emerald City Classic tournament is back for its 35th year! The University of Washington hosts some of the top volleyball teams from Oregon, Washington, and northern Idaho, and PrepDig was lucky enough to see them in action.
Below are a handful of passers that caught our attention over the course of the second day.
Barbee was an anchor for the CRU 16-1 team as their libero. She showcased some impressive reaction time and made some great defensive reads and moves to keep the ball alive. She commanded a lot of the court on serve receive.
Highlights
Durham was integral in the Oly Reign 15-1 team making it to the 15 Open finals as their libero. I instantly noticed how much of a leader and how vocal she was on the court. She had a great reaction time and did an exceptional job covering the hitters.
Highlights
Hickman was crucial in the CPA 17-1 team’s success at Emerald City. As the team’s libero, she was a major factor in their ability to stay in system and compete. She was a digging machine and showcased relentless pursuit. Her ability to step in and set an out of system ball to an attacker is top notch.
Highlights
As the #1 libero in the State and a K-State commit, there is no question that Kelly is an absolute stud. Leading the WVBA 18-1 team as their libero, her play was critical in the teams #1 place finish in 18 Open. She was relentless on defense, an absolute digging machine, making impressive defensive moves to keep the ball alive.
Kraus was the cornerstone of the back row for the Webfoot 16-1 team as their libero. She was very disciplined and technical on serve receive, creating great angles to get the ball to the setter. She also brought a tough jump float to the service line that garnered lots of aces and disruptions.

Lassen was a vital aspect of the NPJ Seattle 15-1s ability to compete in 15 Open. She showcased a quick reaction time on defense which kept the team in rallies. She was exceptional at hitter coverage, disciplined and anticipating that ball coming off the block.
Highlights
Livingston was an absolute force across the backrow for CPA 15-1 and was a critical part of the teams success at ECC, including taking home the trophy for 15 Open. She moved really smoothly across the court, calm and steady. She was impactful on both serve receive and defense. She brought an aggressive jump float serve to the service line that racked up lots of aces.

Sanchez was one of two liberos utilized for OJVA 15-1 over Emerald City. She has really honed in on her ball control abilities this past season and has become an indispensable aspect to this team’s lineup. She oozes athleticism and is dynamic. Typically utilized on serve receive, she was confident and took a lot of the court.

Wheeler was the backbone of the back row for the SIVBC 15-1 team and was instrumental in the team’s ability to play in 16 Open. She was a digging machine and showcased relentless pursuit to keep the ball alive. On serve receive, she was incredibly confident in her ability to step in and pass a settable ball.
