We’ve perused several position groups after Chicago’s USAV Nationals. However, a bit of libero representation is needed. It’s a good thing Nebraska’s Class of 2025 showed up in a big way at the DS and libero positions.
So, this one’s for the lockdown defenders and unflappable passers. Expect some huge strides among 2025 liberos as we inch ever closer to the 2023 high school season.
Kucks’ do-it-all mentality has been a revelation in the Premier Nebraska gym. In past seasons, Kucks was primarily a high-flying outside hitter who could put an offense on her shoulders. She could still do those things this fall, too. But we’ve seen Kucks step into Premier 17 Black’s libero jersey and absolutely thrive. Her relentless defensive hustle produced an endless highlight reel that puts Kucks among Nebraska’s best 2025 liberos.
Our top-ranked player in the 2025 class keeps stepping up on the big stage. Leimbach, who will stay in Lincoln to be apart of Nebraska’s 2025 recruiting class, helped elevate 16 Synergy to new heights at GJNC. The team’s podium finish was anchored by strong ball control and impenetrable defense, and Leimbach remains the focal point in that area. It’s now time for another state championship push with Lincoln Lutheran.
Nebraska ONE 16 Synergy is not afraid to wield a platoon of defensive specialists. Gable has always been a vital backcourt contributor, and GJNC offered another stark reminder of her influential role. It doesn’t matter which zone Gable finds herself in the serve receive pattern. She is always ready to take her share of first contacts.

Teter has rocketed onto our 2025 radar in recent weeks, so it’s only fitting that her Banzai VBC 16 Select squad earned a trip to USAV Nationals to wrap up the season. This savvy defender has been particularly strong while locking down opposing line shots and is equally adept as a primary passer. We’ll see how that translates to Teter’s upcoming prep journey as an upperclassman.
Before this season, Pokharel had been that one standout libero who was always playing up a year. That changed in 2023 as Pokharel stayed with the 16s to provide veteran leadership to 16 Gold’s backcourt. The move was a perfect fit on a team that leaned on passing and floor defense as its guiding forces. Those strengths helped 16 Gold get to GJNC, and now Pokharel hopes it will yield another state tournament appearance for Millard West.
Covalt is still making massive gains out on the court. Her 2023 outing with Nebraska ONE 16 Black has placed her in our discussions on the best small-town performers from the Class of 2025. We’d expect this upward trend to continue when Covalt represents Seward on the prep side.

What a year for Lund. The Premier 16 Black libero was a constant source of spectacular defense, steady passing, and a ton of positive energy. Lund has now built up her resume with a wealth of high-level experience, which will help the transition to her junior year

Defensive specialists don’t exclusively impact the game through passing and defense. Sinnett gave a demonstration of this by dialing up some extraordinary serving runs during Premier 16 Black’s stay in Chicago. Getting teams out of system became Sinnett’s specialty as 16 Black saved one of the season’s finest outings for the very end.
