Continue ReadingFormer Our Lady of the Lake University and current Alamo coach Raul Bernal put on a wonderful invitational volleyball camp that is dubbed “The Camp” a few weeks ago in San Antonio. A lot of the players who attended this invite camp are listed either on our State Rankings or they are on our watch list to potentially be added. Take a look at what the court coaches had to say about their play. This series of articles will highlight the players that stood out to me for a variety of reasons. Here are some of the players who starred:
Preslee Alaniz [2025] 5-11 Middle (HS: Friendswood/Club: Houston Stellar/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Preslee is currently an unranked prospect in the 2025 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays at Friendswood High School and also the wonderful Houston Stellar volleyball club. Raul mentioned this to me about her play during the camp, “Her ability to makeup ground and transition on and off the net were superb. So this made for easier job on the setters to feed her the ball in transition and she made will use of putting the ball away.” Miss Alaniz makes herself available to her setters in all quick set situations very early. She is on time for true “one tempo” attacks. Her length is very disruptive on the defensive end to her opposing attackers.
Jazzlyn Hepburn Jazzlyn Hepburn 5'11" | OH Bowie | 2027 State TX [2027] 5-11 Middle/Outside (HS: Bowie/Club: Austin Performance/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Jazz is currently an unranked prospect in the 2027 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but that is because we have not released them yet. Raul mentioned this to me about her play, “She was by far the most athletic of all MBs at TheCamp. Not only was she already well skilled but adapted to any feedback/coaching she was given to make her better. She has nice length and size and is very explosive. Her lateral movement to close out to the pins will make it difficult for any opponent to get 1on1 blocks with her in the front row.” I have seen her in action this season during club and she has been a joy to watch. I think she has tons of potential to make some waves in the recruiting game in a few years due to explosiveness off of the ground. Once she gets more reps at a high level to gain her timing, it will be over for anyone who she goes up against. Her natural vertical and raw power will attract many college scouts.
Kingsley Minus Kingsley Minus 5'8" | S New Braunfels | 2026 TX [2026] 5-8 Setter (HS: New Braunfels/Club: United VBA/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Kingsley is currently an unranked prospect in the 2026 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays at New Braunfels High School and also the wonderful United VBA volleyball club. Raul mentioned this to me about her play, “Kingsley came into camp and was just an amazing athlete to watch at the setter position. She’s not only fast to the serve reception pass regardless of its location, but she has an amazing IQ in her setting choices. Add that to her sheer strength at pushing balls to pins and her tenacious defense makes her a setter to keep eyes out for.” The length in her arms and the fact that she contacts the ball close to her head allows her to get some awesome lift during the pin sets. She will be able to push to the pins from any location on the court with ease. Her hands are very soft and her hand contact is very repeatable. This will look great to college coaches who watch her skill set in the position. We will be following her journey closely over the next few years to see her progress.
