We are taking wins/losses, strength of schedule, college prospects, overall rosters, tournament finishes, and much more into consideration. Let’s take a look at who gets the nod for the top high schools across the Golden State.
Top 10 California High School Teams
1. Mira Costa HS – The Manhattan Beach school is littered with Division 1 prospects and have been on a nine game winning streak lately. They are currently 11-1 on the young season and are looking to add to that wonderful record. They just recently repeated as Champions of the prestigious Ann Kang Invitational tournament that is held in Hawaii. With Prep Dig ranked players such as super Sophomore outside hitter Audrey Flanagan Audrey Flanagan 6'2" | OH Mira Costa | 2026 State CA , Senior right side Chloe Hynes Chloe Hynes 6'1" | RS Mira Costa | 2024 CA , Junior libero Taylor Deckert Taylor Deckert 5'8" | DS/L Mira Costa | 2025 State CA , Senior setter Hayden Lin Hayden Lin 5'5" | S Mira Costa | 2024 State CA , Senior setter Charlie Fuerbringer Charlie Fuerbringer 5'11" | S Mira Costa | 2024 State #2 Nation CA , Senior right side Kaila DeBeer, Sophomore rightside/setter Reese Stringer Reese Stringer 5'11" | S Mira Costa | 2026 State CA , and Sophomore outside hitter Simone Roslon Simone Roslon 5'11" | OH Mira Costa | 2026 CA this team is stacked!!!! I am not sure anyone has a chance against this star-studded roster.
2. Santa Margarita HS – The Eagles are currently undefeated on the year and sit at 10-0. They also swept the Tosoro tournament and went unscathed en route to winning the Championship. The roster is comprised of Senior outside hitter Regan Shields Regan Shields 5'11" | OH Santa Margarita Catholic | 2024 CA and Junior six-foot outside hitter Brooklyn Drumwright Brooklyn Drumwright 6'0" | OH Santa Margarita Catholic | 2025 State CA who are leading the attack in a thunderous way. They also have Sophomore right side Memphis Burnett Memphis Burnett 5'11" | MB Santa Margarita | 2026 State CA to help spread out the attack. Senior setter Brooklyn Kostoff is running the offense and doing a great job of moving the ball around to keep the defense guessing. Junior libero Isabella Simon is steadying the ship in the back row and keeping them in system.
3. Mater Dei HS – The Monarchs are off to a wonderful start to the young season. They are currently 9-0 and this weekend are showcasing their skills as they traveled to central Texas to compete in the prestigious Volleypalooza tournament. Led by All-World sophomore outside hitter Layli Ostovar Layli Ostovar 5'11" | OH Mater Dei | 2026 State CA who is now back and at full strength, this team is hitting a great stride. They also have 6’2” Senior outside and varsity basketball standout Isabel Clark Isabel Clark 6'2" | OH Mater Dei | 2024 State #66 Nation CA cranking out kills for them. Senior right side Cymarah Gordon is playing lights out right now also for the Monarchs. Splitting duties running the offense are Senior setter Julia Kakkis Julia Kakkis 6'1" | S Mater Dei | 2024 State CA and Junior stud setter Ayva Ostovar Ayva Ostovar 5'6" | S Mater Dei | 2025 State CA . They are both doing a phenomenal job of moving the ball around to all of their wonderful hitters.
4. Saugus HS – The Centurions are currently 10-0 on the season and playing extremely well. They have only lost two individual sets all season so far. They are led by stud Junior outside hitter Leila Ballard who is scoring in a variety of ways. She is a master of moving the ball around to the corners, finding holes in the defense with off-speed shots, and also tooling the block at will. Junior outside attacker Leah Taylor is also adding some much needed firepower to this wonderful offense. Junior setter Morgan Guardado is leading this team by running a 5-1 offense. Her ability to battle at the net is proving to be very effective for her squad. The ball is coming off of her hands fast and she is scoring points with tough setter dumps also. Junior libero Gabriella Cascione is one of the state’s top liberos this early in the season at 13.2 digs per set. Stay tuned for more on this wonderful squad.
5. Otay Ranch HS – The Mustangs are currently 7-0 on the season. The Chula Vista upstarts are making some serious noise in the state’s volleyball scene. They are led by Senior right side/outside hitter Andrea Torres Andrea Torres 5'8" | OH Otay Ranch | 2024 CA who is lighting up the scoreboard with her kills. Junior outside Dayjah McFadden and Senior outside Ximena Cordero Ximena Cordero 5'10" | OH Otay Ranch | 2024 State CA are also racking up kills in a hurry for this awesome team. Junior setter Rian Huntress is dishing some awesome dimes to her teammates. Senior libero Olivia Lorenzana is also doing a wonderful job in the back row keeping her team in every rally. They are using her digs and passes to run some great offense. We will be watching them as they work together to make a run toward the playoffs.
