With positions to be won in the starting lineup of teams and adjustments and positional changes taking place in basically every squad, players have been pushed to bring their ‘A’ game early on and that’s translating into some very powerful performances across the state.
Here are five players who started the season on fire:
The top prospect in our Class of 2026 Prep Dig State Rankings, Anderson was a key element in Dripping Springs’ championship-winning squad last season. With some seniors graduating after their last campaign, it was expected her role with the team would be even bigger this time around and preseason has just confirmed that. Anderson has tallied 138 kills in the first 26 sets of the season, helping her team win its first 11 matches while dropping just two sets. She started the season with 21 kills in a four-set win over Rouse a week ago and never looked back, delivering 16 in a two-set match against Ursuline Academy over the weekend.
Playing a dual role of setter and outside hitter for Brenham, Crowson is probably one of the very few players in the state to have tallied more than 100 kills and assists already. She has always been an extremely solid playmaker for the Cubettes and this year will have an added offensive responsibility with the graduation of star outside hitter Brooke Bentke. Crowson is currently at 102 kills and 162 assists for the season and has also produced 70 digs and 17 aces across 31 sets. She was on fire against Katy Taylor last week, leaving the court with 14 kills, 19 assists and nine digs, jus one defensive action away from a triple double.

Atascocita have four wins and four losses in the season so far, but Deen-Jackson has emerged as a true force in the middle for them. The seniors has been in excellent form in the first week of the season, especially with her blocking. With 33 stuffs in 20 sets, she’s averaging more than 1.5 blocks per set and was a wall in a 2-1 loss to Granbury, registering seven blocks. Deen-Jackson hasn’t been a set a lot up to this point of the season but has been incredibly efficient, putting down 42 of the 84 chances she had – her .464 kill percentage is among the best in the state right now.
Mia Morris

A senior, Morris has been a defensive machine for Alpine in the early days of the season. The only player in the entire state to surpass 200 digs at this point of the season, the libero has been averaging absurd 8.5 digs per set, accounting for 203 successful defensive actions in just 24 sets. She’s been leading her team a strong campaign so far with seven wins in eight matches, but was ironically at her best in the team’s only upset, a five-set defeat to Fort Stockton in which she had 49 digs – just a few hours later tallying 37 in a 3-2 win over Wink. Morris has also been extremely active with her passing, having tallied 141 actions so far.
Capable of playing anywhere at the net, Pyles has been used at the pin with Fossil Ridge and her all-around game has helped the team get seven straight wins before falling to Round Rock this past weekend. She has been very strong offensively, getting a .403 hitting percentage to have 102 kills in just 20 sets – 22 of which in the season-opener against Bell, when she also had 15 digs, 31 passes and four blocks. Pyles has also contributed with 57 digs, 86 passes, 16 blocks and seven aces so far in the season.
