One of them is the traditional Katy/Cy-Fair ISD tournament, which is set to reunite not only teams from the two popular school districts, but also from around Houston and other regions across several high schools in the area.
Here are five players that will be in action in the tournament that are worth your attention:
One of the most impressive liberos in the Houston area, Volpe will be in action with her strong Bridgeland team. An extremely productive defensive player, she makes difficult digs look easy because of her outstanding positioning and superior ball control. Volpe has provided Bridgeland with tremendous stability on the backcourt for years and will once again be instrumental for the team this season as they work to replace some important players who graduated. Volpe’s high-energy and leadership will be of extreme value to her team this season and she’ll be ready to deliver again.
Funk emerged as a very promising middle with Tompkins during the last high school season, when she helped the team advance all the way to the State Championship match. Very long and intelligent to read the game and react to it, the middle quickly earned a spot in the team’s starting lineup and contributed strongly on both sides of the ball. This season, with Tompkins not counting on their three main scorers from last season, it’s very likely Funk will be more demanded offensively and after having a strong club season with Houston Juniors , she looks ready for it.
One of the most versatile and explosive hitters in the Houston area, Porter will lead the potent offense of Cy-Ranch. She has posted some ridiculous numbers in her first two years of high school volleyball and, with the graduation of Bianna Muoneke, will be asked to do even more this season. Porter is incredibly athletic, swings tremendously hard and is excellent with her shot selection. Capable of playing on the left or the right, she also passes dimes and plays excellent defense. Another quality of her is her always-positive attitude on the court.

A creative and consistent setter, Romriell is in charge of running the offense of Seven Lakes. She has extraordinaire technical resources and is very intelligent with everything she does on the court, finding good solutions to difficult situations and making good strategical decisions. Romriell is very accurate with her locations and often fools blockers with her ball distribution. She’s also a very strong server and can play very good defense.

One of the top blockers in the Houston area, Taylor will lead Langham Creek’s efforts at the net. Extremely long, she consistently improved her blocking over the last two years, developing her reading of the game and increasing her ability to anticipate moves and stop opponents at the net. Taylor has also become a very efficient offensive player as her career progressed. If at the start she would heavily rely on her high contact point to beat blockers, now she can hit different sets down the middle and find some great angles to put the ball down.
