Guilherme Torres | Prep Dig Scout
Funk and her HJV 18 Elite team are among the teams competing in the National Division in Reno. Very long and extremely intelligent, she typically puts up big numbers on both sides of the ball, making a major impact in her team’s game. Her offense is very consistent and diversified, as she’s capable of overpowering opponents with big swings, but also of putting the ball down with well-placed tips. Funk makes an arguably even larger impact with her blocking, as she not only gets stops at a good volume, but also tends to come up with blocks in key moments of matches.

Funk and her Tompkins team will make the trip to Cy Falls HS, where they will play against Clear Creek, Willis and Cy Lakes. The middle has had a big role with the team since her freshman season and is ready to end her high school career on a high. Funk is an outstanding blocker who not only produces in volume but also gets stops in critical moments of matches, making a difference for her team. She uses her length extremely well to press opponents and has a very high volleyball IQ, which allows her to make split-second decisions in a very efficient way. Funk also appears well offensively, putting the ball with great consistency, and should be even more important in that area of the game this season.

Funk was among Tompkins’ most efficient hitters and could have had more than seven kills and a much bigger role in the match had the Falcons handled their passing better. The team had its best moments in the match when the junior got into a rhythm and started to win the battle in the middle, but her momentum was at times stopped by their serve-receive issues. Funk also tried her best to make an impact in the game with her blocking, but got just one stop.

Funk emerged as a very promising middle with Tompkins during the last high school season, when she helped the team advance all the way to the State Championship match. Very long and intelligent to read the game and react to it, the middle quickly earned a spot in the team’s starting lineup and contributed strongly on both sides of the ball. This season, with Tompkins not counting on their three main scorers from last season, it’s very likely Funk will be more demanded offensively and after having a strong club season with Houston Juniors , she looks ready for it.

A very steady and productive middle, Funk is an important piece in her HJV 15 Elite team that will compete in the 15 Open division in Chicago. A starter in the strong Tompkins team that compete in the last high school State Tournament, she delivers a lot in the middle with her consistency and reliability. Blocking has always been Funk’s main strength as she uses her length and excellent mobility to make her presence felt at the net, but she has been significantly expanding her offensive game too, adding more weapons to her arsenal and scoring with more consistency too.
