The coaches have voted for a top ten in each class, and they came up with 43 (!!!) different schools to vote for. So, that tells me that we're not going to look at that first poll, and instead make one of our own. Here are our top five teams in the early going of the Indiana high school season, with records and primary players.

#5: Brownsburg (3-1)

As tough of a conference as the Bulldogs play in, there's no shame in their loss to a talented and physical North Central squad the other day. A conference match at #1 HSE is just over a week away, so maybe the loss teaches them something about themselves. What we do know about this squad is that it's balanced between [player_tooltip player_id='185478' first='Delaney' last='Steers'] ('25, 5-10 OH) and [player_tooltip player_id='110493' first='Abby' last='Sollenberger'] ('24, 6-2 MB). Delaney has a whip of a right arm, and is a primary passing outside for the Bulldogs, while Abby is the size desperately needed to compete at the 4A level. Hyper-athletic [player_tooltip player_id='155212' first='Aysa' last='Thomas'] ('25, 5-10 S) runs the show for this squad, and does well to make poor passes hittable for her attackers.

#4: Brebeuf (3-0)

For the Braves, it's business as usual. Three quick wins over solid competition this past weekend, with matches looming at #2 Yorktown on Thursday and defending 3A champ Providence on Saturday. [player_tooltip player_id='110498' first='Lola' last='Schumacher'] ('24, 5-4 DS/L, Wisconsin commit) has been placed as a primary passing outside, leading the team in kills, digs and aces on the young season. This puts [player_tooltip player_id='152936' first='Lexi' last='Gin'] ('25, 5-6 DS/L, Penn State commit) at the libero spot, evoking memories of Yorktown's run to a few state titles not long ago. [player_tooltip player_id='261046' first='Reese' last='Blanchard'] ('26, 5-10 S) runs the 5-1 in this offense, and with the passing she's receiving from the former two listed, she'll be more than able to keep this offensive engine running.

#3: Roncalli (1-0)

It's early in the Royals' season, and their four-set win over Franklin Central was unimpressive for Roncalli standards. That being said, there is a ton of youth leading the way early on, starting with [player_tooltip player_id='152943' first='Logan' last='Bell'] ('25, 5-10 OH, Oregon commit). The future Duck will get her fair share of attempts; hopefully, she can turn that into kills quickly. [player_tooltip player_id='221342' first='Lily' last='Jones'] ('26, 6-1 OH) is an outstanding complement to Logan, as her size and physicality will be much needed throughout the season in order for the Royals to compete in 4A in late October. [player_tooltip player_id='252404' first='Addie' last='Haberthy'] ('26, 5-11 S) is a nice-sized setter that can make this offense go, but she'll need to find other hitters besides the two listed above to make it past the regional this fall.

#2: Yorktown (1-0)

The Tigers swept a young and athletic Westfield squad on Saturday by limiting errors and passing nails. Well, duh, it's Yorktown, of course they can pass. But can they attack? [player_tooltip player_id='152944' first='Charlotte' last='Vinson'] ('25, 6-1 OH, Indiana commit) certainly can, as her 16 kills in the sweep proved to those in attendance. Finding another attacker, however, will be a work in progress. No other player had more than six kills in that match, and they'll need more of a supporting cast in order to make it back to Worthen. [player_tooltip player_id='228839' first='Kynnadi' last='Bell'] ('24, 5-4 S/DS) should surpass 1000 career assists this fall, but is more known for her ball control. However, with all of those passers on the roster, Miss Bell will be just fine running the Tiger offense.

#1: Hamilton Southeastern (3-0)

Was there ever a doubt as to which program belonged here? Between [player_tooltip player_id='110501' first='Lauren' last='Harden'] ('24, 6-3 OH, Florida commit), [player_tooltip player_id='112085' first='Tiffany' last='Snook'] ('24, 6-2 MB, Memphis commit) and [player_tooltip player_id='153104' first='Breonna' last='Goss'] ('24, 6-0 MB, Duke commit), size, athleticism and physicality will never be an issue. [player_tooltip player_id='110509' first='Macy' last='Hinshaw'] ('24, 5-10 S, Santa Clara commit) leads by example and is the singularly most competitive setter in this class. There are so many to mention that I'm sure I'll get criticized for leaving someone out, so go watch them yourselves. Their conference matches are no joke, but look at their non-conference coming up: Floyd Central (8/26), Brebeuf (8/29), Bellmont (9/2), Carroll (9/2) and Yorktown (9/5). The schedule looks like a who's who of Indiana volleyball. This is the way to schedule if you want a repeat title.
