Continue ReadingThe Texas High School season is well underway and there have been some teams that are separating themselves from the rest of the pack this season. This series will be highlighting a few of them as everyone marches through their district schedule. Let’s take a closer look at who is standing out for these teams on the rise.
Cypress Ranch Mustangs
The Mustangs of Cy Ranch have been on fire this season and have played some awesome volleyball as of late. They are currently 23-5 and undefeated in district 16-6A. Junior outside hitter Taylor Porter Taylor Porter 5'11" | OH Cypress Ranch | 2025 State #85 Nation TX has been stellar to say the least. She is the “go-to” hitter for Cy Ranch and has double the kills of the next best hitter. We have followed Miss Porter for quite a while now and this is nothing new to us. She is an elite volleyball player. Sophomore outside hitter Kaylee Parker has been phenomenal for the Mustangs as she has provided some much needed firepower from the pins. She is also digging up everything that comes her way to keep her team in the rally. Sophomore Zora Bello Zora Bello 5'10" | S Cypress Ranch | 2026 State TX and Senior Taryn Gilreath Taryn Gilreath 6'0" | S Cy Ranch | 2024 State TX are also stuffing the stat book with kills. They are both also dishing the rock at an elite level. I love how they are setting the tone for the squad. Senior libero Gabrielle Eads is keeping the back row steady as she passes nails to the setters. Senior Middles Logan Hart and Tya Lynch Tya Lynch 6'0" | MB Cy Ranch | 2024 State TX are doing a fantastic job solidifying the defense at the net. This team has a great mix of upperclassmen and underclassmen to stay competitive for the next few years.
Argyle Eagles
The Eagles are feasting on opponents as they currently sit at an overall record of 26-7 and 4-0 in district 7-5A. They are climbing up the rankings fast. Senior stud middle Katherine Holtman has been absolutely phenomenal on both the offensive side of the ball and defensively at the net as well. In my opinion, this team will go as far as she will help carry them. Now the load is not 100% on her but she does carry much of it. She is getting some awesome help from junior setter/right side Jordyn Moore Jordyn Moore 6'1" | S Argyle | 2025 State TX and seniors Shaye Feely and Camryn Heiser. Shaye and Jordyn are balling in the back row also as they both dig everything that comes their way. This back row is legit and it is led by junior standout libero Piper Mickenheim Piper Mickenheim 5'5" | DS/L Argyle | 2025 State TX . She is one of the best floor generals in 5A for sure. This team can count on her to never give up on a ball and clean up any mess that can happen in ball control. Junior defensive specialist Madalyn Justice Madalyn Justice 5'3" Argyle | 2025 TX also is helping to control the ship during serve receive as she helps the offense stay in system. All in all this team plays very well together and they have what it takes to go on a deep run in the 5A state playoffs. We will be watching closely as they embark on the journey.
Davenport Wolves
This San Antonio squad has come out of nowhere to be a serious contender in the 4A division. They are currently 32-3 overall and undefeated in early district play. Senior outside hitter Talan Dodson Talan Dodson 5'10" | OH Davenport | 2024 State TX is averaging double digit kills each match and is hitting at a whopping .285 hitting percentage. Her efficiency in scoring is one big reason why they are so competitive. Junior outside Ashtan Dodson Ashtan Dodson 6'0" | OH Davenport | 2025 State TX is doing her thing offensively for this awesome squad also. She has been unstoppable from the left side providing some thunderous swings to the opposing side. I love that she can score in a variety of ways and pounds the ball down the line. Senior setter Emily Chabot and Super sophomore Alexis Dahl Alexis Dahl 5'8" | S Davenport | 2026 State TX are running an excellent 6-2 offense. It looks like a very balanced distribution of the ball to keep the defense guessing. They are incorporating the middles well to score also. Junior libero Logan Strong has been stellar out of the left back zone. She is passing and digging like a stud. I love how she moves backwards in serve receive to track the ball and doesn’t raise her upper body. This keeps the ball moving forward to the setters and keeps the play in system to run a solid offense. Look for Davenport to go on a solid run to the state championship this season.
