Our exploration of the new additions to our Nebraska Class of 2025 rankings update has spanned Part 1 and Part of this feature series. There’s still more left, so we’re back to the grind.
Let’s close it out.
Baumgartel helps get some libero representation among the new additions. The Lutheran High Northeast defender has accumulated nearly four-and-a-half digs per set and is an indispensable part of the passing formation. And, to complete Baumgartel’s full repertoire, she can easily step in to take out-of-system setting duties and deliver a clean second ball to her hitters.
How about the setters? Chapin is one of our new savvy distributors in the Class of 2025 rankings, and she’s seen a much heavier workload with Broken Bow this fall. Assist totals have escalated quickly for Chapin, who now has nearly nine helpers per set for the Indians. It’s a reflection of what has become a winning season for Broken Bow as the squad looks to continue that momentum.
Vacha has become a stat-stuffing machine for Logan View/Scribner-Snyder. She’s had some brief attacking stints, but most of her damage has come as a lockdown libero. 5.2 digs per set is a lofty total, but Vacha has made it look fairly routine so far. We’ll see if that extraordinary run continues.
One more productive libero for the list. We’ve featured Furstenau here before, so it was only a matter of time before she joined the 2025 rankings. Her productive run with Elgin Public/Pope John has yielded one eye-popping statistic after another, bringing this small-town squad into the spotlight in Class D1.
We’re wrapping up with a pair of athletes who made their mark with River City Jrs during the club season. Blodgett has proven her range by playing just about any role imaginable in the River City gym, from defensive specialist to all-around outside hitter. Whatever the case, Blodgett is one to watch when we transition to another club campaign in 2024.
Toelle’s impact with River City Jrs has mostly been in the middle. Her lateral quickness has proven to be an asset, as Toelle can move from pin to pin to seal the net. This year’s valuable experience is bound to pay off with an even greater uptick in production during 17s play.
