High school season is here! Tryouts were the week of August 14th, and league play started the week of September 4th.
As usual, Prep Dig will be following the action. But first, we will highlight the top players returning in each position.
Next up, the top passers from the 4A-1A classification.
Daviscourt, a Southern Oregon University commit, had an impressive season for Cascade last year, where she commanded the team’s back row and led Cougars to a second place finish at State. Daviscourt was named to the 4A Oregon West all-league first team and received all-state first team honors. Daviscourt flies around the court with ease to pick up tough balls and uses control and discipline to make solid passes, tallying 404 total digs last year. After her season on the NPJ 17 National team, Daviscourt is ready to dominate once more for Cascade.
Huspek, the libero for the reigning 1A State Champions Damascus Christian, is a major impact player for the Eagles. Huspek displays quick reactions on defense, she’s super fast on her feet, and her digs are controlled and well-placed for her setters. From the baseline, Huspek has a tough float serve that opponents struggle to pass. With the graduation of three of the Eagles’ key players, Huspek’s role commanding the back row will be more important than ever this season.
Nieves is an excellent libero for the Tillamook Cheesemakers, earning 4A Cowapa all-league first team honors last season as a result of her consistent and disciplined play in the back row. Over the course of the season, Nieves notched an impressive 313 digs. She also has a tough jump serve that disrupts the game for her opponents, and she brings a confident and reliable energy to the court. Nieves played libero for the NPJ 17 Elite team, where she continued to hone in on her back row skills. She will be a key piece of the Cheesemakers’ lineup this fall.

Peach led the Pirates to their 4A State Championship win from the back row last season with steady defense and serve receive. As a result of her impressive play, Peach earned 4A Sky Em all-league second team honors. Although last season was Peach’s first year in the libero jersey (she had previously been setting for the Pirates), she picked up the position quickly and very successfully, notching a solid 350 digs over the fall. Peach’s command of the back row will be instrumental for Marshfield this season.
Highlights
Villastrigo, who recently committed to play at Eastern Oregon, had an impressive season with Crook County. Leading her team to a solid 4th place finish in the 4A State Tournament and earning all-state honorable mention accolades, Villastrigo was quick in the back row, using her fast reactions and speed to pick up nearly everything. Over the course of the season, Villastrigo notched an amazing 560 digs. She continued her high level play on the COVC 18-1 team this past season. Villastrigo will no doubt be a major impact player for Crook County again this fall.
