We knew there would be a huge opportunity to add names to our database in Nebraska’s Class of 2026. So, not only did this update come with a newly minted top 30, but we also have some new additions to cover.
The trilogy begins with Part 1.
Let’s start at the setter spot, which has added a few promising 2026s in our latest update. Andersen has been running the show for Bertrand this fall and is racking up 7.5 assists per set to her credit. This valuable underclassman leadership has lifted the Vikings to a winning mark so far in 2023, and there’s more growth to be had in the weeks and years ahead.
Sophomore liberos are becoming a huge factor at some of Nebraska’s biggest schools. Better’s rise at Bellevue West is a perfect example. This savvy defender has not been deterred by Class A’s wide collection of talented hitters. Rather, Berger has stepped in with four digs per set against the state’s toughest competition. The Thunderbirds have leaned on their emerging libero amid a big hot streak that has put Bellevue West among the Class A frontrunners.
It’s hard not to notice Carlson’s place among the state’s most productive liberos. The Winside sophomore is credited with over six digs per set–a remarkable total under any circumstances. Watching Carlson on film reveals her the quality of those digs, too. The Wildcat libero has a knack for putting Windside in positions to score with first contacts that are right on the setter’s head. Transition dig location is an underrated skill that Carlson has mastered.
The big schools can get in on the action here, too. DeyErmand is emerging as Millard South’s starting setter and has already put together an impressive highlight tape. Aside from DeyErmand’s ability to set her team up for success, she is also incredibly aggressive in her own attacking and has been tough to stop in the front row.
The setter spot is producing. Drohman is guiding Deshler to an extraordinary 16-3 campaign behind her 8.5 assists per set and a host of other contributions. The Dragons gain a reliable right-back defender whenever Drohman rotates to the service line, and her all-around game is complete with some strong blocking on the right pin. It’s all coming together for one of Class D1’s biggest breakout teams.
Erhart keeps the setter train moving. Palmyra is experiencing a 2023 surge behind the sophomore’s leadership and savvy distribution. Erhart puts her hitters in a perfect rhythm with flawless location from pin to pin, yielding nearly nine assists per set so far this season. That kind of production will help the Panthers climb the Class C2 ladder in the near future.
Gideon is not to be outdone in this setter-laden feature. The sophomore saw time in Burwell’s starting lineup as a freshman, but her time to run the show solo has arrived. The Longhorns now have an underclassman setter who has already compiled a lot of in-match experience, and Gideon is paying it off with a major rise in production.
