Here we go again.

Versatility remains an ever-present theme of our rankings coverage. Every time we overhaul one of our Nebraska lists, we take a step back and evaluate which players have shown us a little of everything during their prep careers. The rising sophomores of the Class of 2029 are not precluded from that discussion.

And the 2029s are in a fascinating spot in that journey. Some may see their first varsity reps this fall. Others are looking to build on strong showings in the recent club season, which have brought dozens of new names to our Nebraska 2029 rankings. Whatever the case, these up-and-coming underclassmen have already seen a wealth of playing experience across the positional dial.

It's the perfect setup for a compelling scouting report. Keep tabs on these do-everything gems as this year's prep campaign approaches.

Payne delivers the kind of pin-to-pin prowess you wouldn't expect from an underclassman. This Grand Island Northwest star has split time between the outside and opposite positions, delivering indefensible heat wherever she lines up. Her tenure on the left side led to some of the best scoring numbers among Nebraska freshmen last fall. Payne racked up three kills per set and was a go-to out-of-system terminator for the Vikings. Her scouting report evolved with VCNebraska 15 Elite, where Payne saw escalating reps at the other antenna. She dished out the same heavy, undiggable swings we saw with Northwest, elevating Payne's greatness as a frontcourt weapon. Her postseason experience with VCNebraska could lead to tournament breakthroughs on the prep side.

The future is bright for the Knights. Sandhills/Thedford boasted some productive freshmen on last year's 26-6 squad, and Ray loomed large in multiple statistical categories. This is a classic do-everything setter-hitter. It's a niche that has become a staple of Nebraska's best rural programs, and Ray has taken her dual role to the next level. She has a high, winding approach on the right pin and is particularly good at finding open corners of the opposing defense. Then, Ray rotates into the backcourt and operates Sandhills/Thedford's balanced offense. Even while Ray led the team in hitting percentage last year, she offered so much more around the dial.

We're staying on the small-town scene for this one. Blauhorn first landed on our radar as a springy, effective left-side hitter for last year's Wood River crew. She soared to a triple-digit kill total and showed a knack for chiseling off of high hands. Her work with South Central NE 15 Black has brought much of the same, but Blauhorn brings a lot more to any lineup she joins. 15 Black wasn't afraid to leverage Blauhorn's range on the right side, proving she can command attention on either side of the setter. But Blauhorn's inclusion in this feature also reflects her outstanding defensive work. She amassed three digs per set with Wood River and was a mainstay in the South Central NE backcourt through USAV Nationals. Blauhorn doesn't have to pile up kills to have a positive influence.

Bash blurred the lines between frontcourt positions during her debut season with Omaha Mercy. Simply put, she took swings from anywhere. Her role changed depending on who was in the front row with her, but Bash's hard-hitting influence persisted throughout. She compiled a team-best 2.1 kills per set with the Monarchs last fall while also leading the squad's hitting efficiency chart. Bash was at her best while teeing off on high balls that allowed her to take a full approach. Her movement from the pin to the middle made her a nightmare matchup for opposing blockers, and Bash's stock only escalated through her leadership with River City Jrs 15 Red. She's done it all.

How about another multi-dimensional attacker from the River City Jrs camp? Duran got some early exposure to the Class A gauntlet last fall, leading the Bellevue West docket with 2.5 kills per set. She locked down the left side and took plenty of attacking volume in the Thunderbird frontcourt. It was an ideal prelude to Duran's club stint with River City Jrs 15 Navy, which added additional layers to her scouting report. River City Jrs has boasted some physical opposites lately, and Duran added to that list while exhibiting her multi-pin flexibility. The move was clearly worthwhile as 15 Navy hoisted an AAU championship trophy in the 15 Elite division.

Michaelis is a setter with an attacker's mindset. Her distribution skills were particularly notable as Premier Nebraska 15 Silver marched to the Show Me Qualifier championship match. That Kansas City success was a testament to Michaelis's ability to guide a pin-to-pin spread, but she also boasts the physicality needed to terminate on the right side. However, Michaelis also doesn't need to be in the front row to rack up her kills. She has a lethal set-over dump that frequently finds the floor in the campfire. Perhaps Michaelis's versatility can be drawn from her high-level experience on the softball diamond, too. Multi-sport athletes often arise in features like these.

Pinkelman's freshman season with Wynot set a high bar for the rest of her prep career. She logged nearly 200 kills in her debut season as Wynot marched to a Class D2 title. Pinkelman arguably saved her best for that high-stakes trip to Lincoln, where she hit about 0.300 in the state tournament. Her postseason play revealed how Pinkelman can oscillate from the middle to the right side, becoming a difficult matchup for any opposing blocker. She thrives off of two feet but can get the job done on either side of the setter. The Blue Devils have an underclassman centerpiece for their title defense this fall.
