Some incredible volleyball was played by some of the top athletes in the state and the country. Here are some of the athletes who had stand-out performances at the IHSA 4A State Tournament.
Gabriele was absolutely electric on the court. She was everywhere she was needed in the middle and elevated the game of her teammates around her. Gabriele has a massive vertical and was incredibly efficient. She had eight kills in the state semifinal match, hit 0.217, and contributed six blocks. Her high level of play kept Benet balanced throughout the weekend.
Audrey was a dynamite pin for Benet. She absolutely soared on the court. In the semifinal match, she had nine kills and hit 0.318. In Benet’s 3-set thriller in the state championship match, Audrey had 17 kills and hit 0.371. She is a player who can be relied on in high-pressure moments and never misses a beat on the court.
Carolyn is one of the top athletes in her class in the country. She is incredibly athletic and has near-infinite potential. In the state semifinal match, Carolyn had an incredible 15 kills and hit 0.400. In the state championship match, she had 13 kills and hit 0.306. Truly incredible numbers considering the level of volleyball being played.
Hannah is one of the most athletic setters I have seen. She has an absolutely insane vertical and can jump over athletes who are 5+ inches taller than she is. Hannah was critical to Willowbrook’s 3rd-place finish on both offense and as a setter. Hannah had 10 kills, hit 0.269, 15 assists, and 12 digs. Hannah is a superb athlete who is gritty and energetic on the court.
Berkeley is an unstoppable middle. In the 3rd place match at the state tournament, she had seven kills and zero errors, hitting a 0.538. She also contributed three block assists. Berkeley has solid fundamentals that set her up for success playing at such a high level.
Molly was key throughout the state tournament. She got great touches across the backcourt and really kept control of the ball against some crazy-talented hitters. Molly was steady and composed even in chaotic situations. She made a huge effort to keep the ball in system and was a huge impact player.
Highlights
It is nearly impossible to stop Ellie White Ellie White 5’11” | OH Mother McAuley | 2024 State #34 Nation IL . She is absolutely incredible to watch play live. She had 18 kills in the state championship match, where she led her team to the 4A title. She is also an amazing defender and proves time and time again why she is the top-ranked player in the state. She is competitive and explosive on the court and a huge leader.
Highlights
Sydney was explosive throughout the state tournament. She kept the offense balanced and took a heavy offensive load. Sydney has a ton of power but is also consistent and can execute on nearly any set. She had eight kills and hit 0.227 in the state championship match. Sydney was reliable and impactful on offense.
