On that day, I was at the Merrell Center, in Katy, where the Regional Tournament of Division 5A – Region 3 is being held, to watch the duel between the Barbers Hill Lady Eagles and the College Station Lady Eagles.
Barbers Hill (42-7) overcame a first-set loss to come from behind and extend their winning streak to 24 matches with a 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-19) victory over College Station (35-13).

The left-handed right side hitter was one of the main destinations of Fadal’s sets and was extremely effective, turning into points 16 of her 30 attempts to reach an excellent 53.3 kill %. Gibbs used her length extremely well but also displayed great vision and an impressive ability to find difficult angles, even when under pressure. She scored in key moments of the match and often the player the setter turned to to end long rallies.
Playing as an outside hitter, Spahn had a very strong offensive performance for Barbers Hill. She was probably the team’s hitter who maintained the best consistency throughout the match and also stood out for making very few errors. She always made contact with the ball at a very high point and made great decisions with her shot selection, also displaying an interesting offensive repertoire. She ended the match with 11 kills and four digs.
Morgan was frequently used in Barbers Hill’s offensive system and responded well, producing the team’s second-best mark of 12 kills. The senior middle displayed great chemistry with Fadal, with whom she also plays during the club season, hitting a variety of different sets in the middle and also in the right. Her blocking was very productive too as Morgan got a team-high three stuffs, besides several touches. She also played with a lot of energy and lifted the team in tense moments.
Highlights
The senior libero was electric on the backcourt and her strong defensive performance kept her team in the game at times. Most of College Station’s best moments against Barbers Hill featured a series of Kimes’ digs, some of which were truly impressive. The libero also did a very good job with her passing, keeping her team in system almost every time she was targeted, while also showing very good precision when she had to set in transition, often using her hands to do it.
Thiebaud looked a little nervous at the start of the match, getting called for a couple of doubles early on, but had a very good performance after she settled into the game. Her ball distribution was very good from start to finish and didn’t have any issues with the accuracy of her locations. The sophomore also used her height well to contribute to the team’s blocking and to score in setter dumps. She turned into a right side hitter during the third set when College Station had trouble siding out and helped the team overcome the difficult moment.
