The latest rankings update is up and LIVE!
For the class of 2027, this is the FIRST EVER top 20 reveal for the class. After a ginormous high school season, we saw a lot of names emerge and talents cement themselves for years to come. It’s just the beginning for this group, and it only goes up from here!
With all of the excitement from 2023 coming to a close, let’s take a look at the first half of the top 20! Here is 1-10 for the 2027 class in Michigan.
No. 1 Mallory Johnson Mallory Johnson 5'6" | DS/L Byron Center | 2027 State MI – Bryon Center/FaR Out
There is no doubt that this player is the real deal. Mallory Johnson Mallory Johnson 5'6" | DS/L Byron Center | 2027 State MI has been a kid playing years beyond her age for a long time now. She’s the next big thing in Michigan volleyball. And as a libero, a position criminally underrated by many, Johnson’s game makes a difference! Be on the lookout for Johnson on FaR Out 16 Black in 2024!
No. 2 Marlie Smith Marlie Smith 5'10" | S Clarkston | 2027 State MI – Clarkston/Legacy
Speaking of kids playing beyond their years, Marlie Smith Marlie Smith 5'10" | S Clarkston | 2027 State MI is another one. And I am not just talking about her skill set here, which is insanely versatile. But she’s a natural-born leader! Seeing how in just her rookie year, Smith was able to command the court for Clarkston as a seasoned vet would. It’s a trait you just can’t teach. She’ll be back with Legacy in 2024 on 15-1 Adidas.
No. 3 Mallory Woiteshek Mallory Woiteshek 6'3" | OH Grand Haven | 2027 State MI – Grand Haven/MVA
She was the 2023 Prep Dig Michigan’s Rookie of the Year. No other kid was matching this one’s physicality and athleticism as an attacker. Mallory Woiteshek Mallory Woiteshek 6'3" | OH Grand Haven | 2027 State MI is a burgeoning talent that you cannot look the other way from. At 6’3, Woiteshek is naturally gifted with incredible feats but it’s the way she uses these gifts that sets her apart. She’s not some big, lengthy kid on the court. Woiteshek can be treacherous. As a multi-sport athlete, I am unsure when we’ll see her throughout the club season, but keep an eye out for her with MVA.
No. 4 Kate Kalczynski Kate Kalczynski 6'1" | OH Mercy | 2027 State MI – Mercy/Legacy
What better way to kick off your high school career than winning a state title?! Kate Kalczynski Kate Kalczynski 6'1" | OH Mercy | 2027 State MI has really done a good job in her debut cementing herself as a top hitter in this class. In a six rotation role, Kalczynski was formidable from first contact to last. She was asked to do a lot for Mercy this fall, and she delivered. As the team’s leader in kills, Kalczynski laid down the foundation for a really exciting career.
No. 5 Grace Goodyke Grace Goodyke 6'1" | OH Grand Rapids Christian | 2027 State MI – Grand Rapids Christian/FaR Out
It’s been awhile since we have heard about Grand Rapids Christian, but Grace Goodyke Grace Goodyke 6'1" | OH Grand Rapids Christian | 2027 State MI has a lot to say about that. One of the top rookies this fall, Goodyke was the missing piece GRC needed to return to glory. An attacking dynamo, she leads this team in kills and at a really efficient percentage. In the D2 Final Four, Goodyke was a gold mine with over 15 kills in the three set loss.
No. 6 Calli LeFevre Calli LeFevre 5'11" | OH Marian | 2027 State MI – Marian/Legacy
Marian may not have been able to complete the four-peat this year, but with the youth on this roster, there’s no knowing what is to come from the Mustangs for years to come. One of the top freshman in the group, Calli LeFevre Calli LeFevre 5'11" | OH Marian | 2027 State MI lit the stage up this season. Well within the mix as one of the top outsides in the state, LeFevre held her own against the veterans in the gym. She’s an exciting talent to watch emerge over the next 3 years under Coach Mayssa Cook‘s tutelage.
No. 7 Cynthia Ockerman Cynthia Ockerman 6'3" | MB Brighton | 2027 State MI = Brighton/Legacy
Maybe the biggest dark horse team of the year. Brighton was the team to look out for. And their biggest kid to look out for? Cynthia Ockerman Cynthia Ockerman 6'3" | MB Brighton | 2027 State MI . At 6’3 in the middle, it was hard to miss her, but at her physicality and agility, it was also hard to stop her! In her lone season with the team, Ockerman got to play for a Wolverine All-Time great in Cori Crocker. A mentorship that looked to prove huge for the rising star.
No. 8 Mallory Wandel Mallory Wandel 6'0" | OH Rockford | 2027 State MI – Rockford/MVA
This is looking to be a real good class across the board here in Michigan. East side vs west side, they are both top tier. Mallory Wandel Mallory Wandel 6'0" | OH Rockford | 2027 State MI is a west side kid that had a huge debut this fall with Rockford. Another program that reemerged in 2023, the Rams are full of youth, much to the talent of Wandel. Look out for Wandel throughout the club season with MVA 15 Rise
No. 9 Jeana Lenhard Jeana Lenhard 6'0" | OH Essexville Garber | 2027 State MI – Essexville Garber/Five:1
When one Lenhard departs, another one enters. Jeana Lenhard Jeana Lenhard 6'0" | OH Essexville Garber | 2027 State MI not only picked up where big sister, Ashlee, left off, but she’s cranked up the heat a ton! In just her debut season, Lenhard managed to break the Garber school record for kills in a single season with over 500. There had been rumblings of many of these underclassman coming into this season, but Lenhard is one that truly came out of the woodworks. I would keep an eye out for her as her career progresses.
No. 10 Camille Robinson Camille Robinson 5'10" | MB Harper Creek | 2027 State MI – Harper Creek/Midwest Select
Much like Lenhard, Camille Robinson Camille Robinson 5'10" | MB Harper Creek | 2027 State MI is another athlete coming out of the wood works this fall and leaving jaws on the floor. A high-level, multi-sport athlete, it’s no wonder how Robinson could be so terminal in so many different positions. Listed as a middle, Robinson can crank it out of any where on the court. Harper Creek looked to be onto something in November but fell short of making a deep run. With both Robinson and Cassidy Pratley Cassidy Pratley 6'0" | MB Harper Creek | 2025 State MI back next fall, Harper Creek becomes a serious contender in the Division I title race.
