Continue ReadingThe start of the club season is always exciting and nerve racking to say the least. The Countdown City Classic tournament in late December has been a good litmus test for teams getting ready for the grueling season. There were some amazing teams that were going to battle this weekend and this series is going to give our readers a glimpse into how teams and players fared. Without further ado, let’s take a look at who peaked my interest as I watched the footage from BallerTV.
The 17 Open champion, Alamo 17 Premier has a ton of players who have been together for many years and this is why they are so dangerous. Their team chemistry is very apparent as they all are very familiar with what each other likes to do on the court in their own respective positions. This amazing team didn’t drop a single set or match all tournament long and had a perfect record of 6-0. We have covered them for the past three years due to their amazing production in every tournament and know their players very well.
Although every member of this team deserves to be honored for their contributions before and during the tourney to get this team to the level of what they showed, here are just a few stars who shined when I watched them play a few matches online:
Megan Fitch Megan Fitch 6'1" | OH Cornerstone Christian | 2025 State #43 Nation TX [2025] 6-1 Outside (HS: Cornerstone Christian/Club: Alamo/Verbal: Texas A&M University)
Megan is currently ranked as the 4th best overall prospect in the 2025 Class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays volleyball at Cornerstone Christian High School and club for the Alamo volleyball program. Here is a little refresher of what I wrote recently about her, “Miss Fitch is widely known as one of the most dynamic point scorers from the left side in her age group. Everyone around the nation is aware that she can score at any time and from any location that she wants to on the court. We are proud to announce that she recently committed to playing volleyball at Texas A&M University. There is not a doubt in my mind that she will be an immediate impact player for the Aggie program from the moment she steps foot on campus.” She was up to her usual point scoring self from all over the court in this tournament. When I watched in the championship match, she moved the ball around so well. I love how she is able to score in such a variety of ways versus the block. The six-rotation stud was the leading point scorer for this championship squad over the course of all six matches.
Brooklyn Vigil Brooklyn Vigil 5'6" | DS/L Harlan | 2025 State TX [2025] 5-6 Libero (HS: Harlan/Club: Alamo/Verbal: University of Louisiana)
Brooklyn is currently ranked as the 75th best overall prospect in the state according to the 2025 Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She stars for Harlan High School and plays club for the Alamo volleyball program. Here is a refresher of what I have written about her previously, “Miss Vigil has been seen by our scouts dominate over the past few years many times. Her skill set has gotten better and better each year and that is a testament to her work ethic and being coachable. Defensively, she is a genius in the back row and rarely do balls hit the floor if they are anywhere near her zone. By using some amazing eye tracking, she is always putting herself in the perfect position to play the ball in serve receive and defense. We are proud to announce that she has committed to playing volleyball at the University of Louisiana.” Her ball control was on full display all tournament long and especially in the championship match against Austin Performance when I watched. She routinely kept Alamo in system with her awesome angles and amazing footwork. Another aspect that I love about Miss Vigil is that she does not get flustered when things get tough and she truly steps up in big games for her talented squad. She is as solid as they come in the libero position.
Aniya Hall Aniya Hall 5'9" | MB Reagan | 2025 State TX [2025] 5-9 Outside (HS: Reagan/Club: Alamo/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Aniya is currently ranked as the 41st best overall prospect in the class of 2025 according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays at Reagan High School and plays club for the Alamo Volleyball program. Miss Hall played the second outside hitter position when I watched in the championship match and she was spectacular. She rose up off of the ground so easily and had her lightning fast arm swing on full display for every spectator to watch. I love how she compliments Megan on the left side so well. It was a great “one-two punch” for this dynamic offense that was very hard to slow down. Their aggressive swings kept knocking the AP defense back and never let them get in system. Miss Hall is very fluid on the court as she moves well without the ball to get set up in position to attack. As an attacker, she has the amazing ability to control where the ball is going to go due to awesome hand contact. She also has a very high volleyball IQ and that makes her a very dangerous point scorer for any defense to try to stop. Keep an eye on her this year as she will rack up kills in a hurry.
Here were some other key contributors to their run to the title. Middles Ada Awagu Ada Awagu 6'2" | MB Johnson | 2025 State TX and Elly Stewart Elly Stewart 6'0" | MB Cornerstone Christian | 2025 State TX were so fast at closing the block and providing a target for their setters during quick attacks. They will be very crucial to this team making some serious waves in the age group. The amazing duo of setters Kaia Thiele Kaia Thiele 5'11" | S Cornerstone Christian | 2025 State TX and Emma Gonzalez Emma Gonzalez 5'5" | S Claudia Taylor Johnson | 2025 State TX moved the ball around so well to all of the hitters and know what it takes to win a championship. They were extremely solid at balancing out the attack. Right Side Tarah Yunes Tarah Yunes 6'0" | OH Tom C Clark | 2025 State TX and Amaya Tolentino Amaya Tolentino 6'0" | OH Cornerstone Christian | 2025 State TX provided some great firepower and blocking for this team to take the title. They will be very tough to slow down due to their power and versatility in playing multiple positions.
